🇨🇴 I was a proud Colombian to see how my government tried to bring the issue to the fore. It now rests in the hands of Brazil as Cop30 host to find a way to force international attention onto the most significant driver of risk to the Amazon and the climate crisis - expansion of fossil fuels.

For me it was an honour to join many Indigenous and non-Indigenous allies from the Assembly for An Amazon Free of Fossil Fuels in advocating for the worlds first extraction and fossil fuel exclusion zone - in the formal dialogues, to the International Parliamentary Inquiry, and in public meetings.

It’s been a huge week in Bogotá for the Amazon Summit. The decision to adopt the Mechanism for Amazonian Indigenous Peoples participation (MAPI for its acronym in Spanish) to bring Indigenous nations into the formal governance structure of the Amazon Treaty is historic.

At the fourth assembly on an Amazon free of fossil fuels - leaders from Indigenous nations across the Amazon sharing stories of their resistance to the industry of death and their wisdom and traditions of life. Three more days of sharing, building relations and political planning to come

Local (not far!) activists from Cesar Sin Fracking emphasise that their struggle is part of a global effort and a feminist effort to define a just energy transition and that every breath they take is an ecological and a political act

Nothing is funny about this but the idea that “party membership” would be a determinable fact (the ‘party’ doesn’t even legally exist every second day here) is amusing to me personally…
