A lotta stuff seems to have happened „just like that” in the #LifeintheUK test handbook. Classes „appeared” and suddenly owned lots of land, Britain „grew” & „became” the „largest empire ever seen” and working conditions „gradually improved” - a history full of miracles, no violence, no struggles

How do histories of the German 'Third Reich' play out in care of older people today? In the piece below (with @probursula.bsky.social), I look at, among other things, how Nationalsocialist discourse still frames client-carer relationships in care (1-5): www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....

The Sussex European Institute (SEI) is now where the skies are blue! Give it a follow - it is a research hub that engages with the political economy of the EU & its colonial and imperial legacies. We've also always looked to the east of Europe:

Here for a future in which communities matter, but not the arbitrary labels imposed on us (such as ‘nation’, ‘race’ ‘Orient’, ‘Eastern Europe’) as part of extractive political projects. Meanwhile, I write about how these categorisations produce inequalities and how people resist & subvert them

In her talk “Thinking Europe from its Eastern Border” at SEI Sussex, Karolina Follis examined the contours of the politics of race at the border between Poland and Belarus - and linked these developments to previous enlargements of the EU to the east. Thanks so much for coming to Sussex!
