What's an "external pressure" in an "open process?"

All computer instruction sets I know of have a NOP or NOOP instruction, which stands for "no operation" (pronounced "no-op") and which means consume a cycle but don't do anything. I've always thought of Sullivan as Alaska's NOOP.

I do, too, but I don't think it's either/or. I'd rather the clumsy stuff (although I had some really humiliating experiences caused by well-meaning adults growing up in Virginia in the '60s), but I'm still not comfortable with things like Christians turning Hanukkah into a Thing.

I agree, but arguably if they don't understand socializing risk they surely won't understand Medicare for All.
