My mother in law (@spiff.bsky.social’s mother) was so amused by the production of Matilda I was just in that she felt moved to make me something. Which she presented with a surprising amount of ceremony at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

Introduced @spiff.bsky.social, @dirediredocks.bsky.social, and his husband to the musical Titanic tonight. Such a good show, deserves more recognition.

Man, remember when Francis was elected and everybody was like “wait, this guy kinda doesn’t suck” and then he died and we all resigned ourselves to the most famous Christian being another ass like Benny XVI or HalfABeatles II?

Turns out the *American* is also a not-sucky pope.

I just learned the Bugs Bunny No meme doesn't even come from him saying no. It's a frame rotated 90 degrees from him taking a drink from a bottle. I needed to share this.

Making a note to go to my local indie and buy them out of some of my favorite novels. I’ll use ‘em as gifts.
I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.
I see some book piracy discourse, and, to make a positive argument in favor of buying books, your marginal ability to influence what books get published and support the careers of writers you like is massive compared to most other forms of media.

We don’t need to reform ICE.
We don’t need alternatives to ICE.
We don’t need to engage in dishonest debates wondering what the U.S. would do without ICE.

ICE isn’t even 23 years old. Most adults know a world without ICE. And the billions used to fund ICE can be used to meet people’s basic needs.

This is one of the wildest things I’ve seen this week.
Reporter: Are you affirming that you think the president is a fascist?

Mamdani: I've spoken about --

Trump: Just say yes, it's easier than explaining.

Nice to get this in the mail.

Front page article in our local weekly pissed me off pretty good. Bunch of shitty conservative “Catholics” (in quotations because the Catholics I grew up with aren’t like this at all) protested a Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence event at the UU church.

Took Tuesday off to get a thing cut off my face and Wednesday to recover a bit from that. And then overnight I had trouble sleeping and felt nauseated all night for no apparent reason.

Which is just to say, today is not it.

And conspicuously without Republican senators having to go on the record for or against. Cute that the Dems didn’t force them to raise their hands. Now every single Republican can say “I didn’t vote for it” or “I did” based on their constituents’ morality.
You might not have caught what just happened on the Senate floor, but the Senate just “deemed as passed” the Epstein resolution.

That means as soon as it arrives from the House, it automatically passes the Senate (with no amendments) and heads to the President’s desk.

Wow.
