📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

Thanks to the EU again. All banks must support SEPA Instant transfers starting 9th October and for the same cost as other transfers. If it weren't for this regulation, most German banks would have happily continued business as usual until boomers didn't exist imo

These guys are the biggest dicks in the world.

Completely the wrong way around. Why is it that simple mailing lists have stricter opt-in rights and protect people better than these ridiculous AI companies?

Wife got a new phone. iPhone Air is just meh. It’s a plus sized iPhone made thinner. Think old Plus version or Pixel 7 Pro size

The central library in Hamburg is gold standard imo. I wish people knew how much of a privilege it is to have this smack in middle of the city, accessible, really friendly staff, SO MANY books/media/papers and what not. Oh and if you have kids there's many activities for them too!
