Now retired science teacher and school leader, after 31 years I decided to hang up my chisel point. Grandad, father, husband, cyclist, birdwatcher, foodie and baker. Still interested in all things education especially research informed practice
Catching a few minutes in the winter sun this little stunner came to say hello. He or she posed so nicely it was a shame not to take their photo.

After listening to the wonderful "Add to playlist" podcast I am having an ELP afternoon listening to their version of Hoedown by Aaron Copland & Pictures at an exhibition.Copland apparently enjoyed their version of Hoedown but thought their "fanfare for the common man"(also by Copland) was better.

Went off with @gargarin.bsky.social to a local river where we have seen Dippers in the past, but not been for a couple of years. Overjoyed that they are still there. We almost certainly saw a pair in the small stretch of river.

I became engrossed in this and nearly forgot my courgette, banana cinnamon loaf was in the oven. Which feels appropriate (or should it be zucchini?)

With Boris we got exactly what was expected. If anyone says that they were surprised with his performance were not paying attention. This was our leader during COVID. He acted totally predictably.

this was the best "Striker" would love to still have this. Figures that actually kick were far better than subbuteo.

Friends in the south is “lard increasingly difficult to find” as @nigelslater.bsky.social suggests? Is this an example (along with oatmeal for Parkin) where Yorkshire shops may win out?

Surely if your policies get the approval of Tommy Robinson you are part of those forces?

I also enjoyed this very much. Part cook book, part rock history, part memoire. If you have any interest in tales of 70s-80s rock stars while they are making records, the development of "foreign cuisine" into the eating habits of the English post war, this could be for you.

it is my privilege to be Chair of our local cycling club. On Sunday we organised a day of cyclocross races with 200+ entrants. Why do we do this? Because cyclocross is a glorious example of all ages, sexes and abilities coming together to ride their bikes around in the mud. What fabulous fun!

What is it with foodies on the T'interweb? Why do so many feel the need to squeeze food repeatedly. I honestly cannot ever remember going into a cafe and giving a pasty or a teacake a good squeeze?

I’m not sure of the exact translation but can confirm it has “intense smaak” and whatever “smeuig”is it certainly was “zeer”

Bit of a mixed birthday weekend for me. On the positive, we welcomed into the world our second Grandson, Theodore. On the downside I seem to have had flu and been relegated to the settee under a blanket for most of it, thus delaying our chance to visit.

Got it!!! Since comet C/2025 A6 Lemmon has been visible we have not had a clear horizon to see it. But patience has proven successful and so here it is. You will need binoculars and probably an app on your phone to find it as it is v faint. These are 2-4 second exposures.

Cultural activity of the morning; the Senior showing at our local cinema. Choice of Hammer House Curse of Frankenstein with Peter Cushing or I Swear. Going with the latter. Free coffee & biscuits £5 and the cinema is 3/4 full.

I've just finished this and loved it. It is a very idiosyncratic rock memoir/ cookbook. I found it fascinating not least just how long ago some of my fave tracks were released. (Rapper's delight is older than I recalled.) See what Rockfield studios looked like, in www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b...

The Dave Robicheaux novels of James Lee Burke, the one author I collect. When I have them all I will go to a cottage somewhere for a week and just sit and read them all in order.....
