I've written something like 120k words for my book in total, but I realized a lot of that will have to be cut or moved to another book. I had to do some plot restructuring stuff cause it's supposed to be the first book in a series.

got to ~75k words in my novel draft, but i kind of hit a wall with it. one of the main characters turned out not to be who i thought he was and it's made everything heavier and more difficult to write.

the interesting thing to me about surveillance pricing, surge pricing, etc., is it seems like digital capitalism is beginning to undermine the whole argument for the "price mechanism" as the most efficient means for signaling value & coordinating distribution.

Is your personal data being weaponized against you when you shop?

Are you paying a different price for products than anyone else?

You may be thanks to a shady practice known as "surveillance pricing."

Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) has introduced a bill to ban the practice.

anyone happen to know if the coat of arms shown for Ölse here correspond to a contemporary city? (probably Polish given the ones around it are all German names for contemporary Polish cities). there are a few towns with similar names but none have similar (or any) coats of arms.

I know this is a millennial ass take but I honestly miss the concept of a "TV channel". Like a curated channel with a theme and like cool animated bumpers lol. And like actual shows, and when you're watching it you know everyone else is watching the same thing at the same time.

well, i decided to convert the text-based RPG i was working on into a novel. it just really wanted to be a linear story and told from multiple points of view. but i'm happy with how it's coming along.

been reading about the Franconian War/punitive expedition, and i have to say, it is very cool to see some old woodcut like this one of the burning of the Waldsteinburg and be able to drop into google maps and look at the ruins yourself.

going from game development to writing is such a trip. like, what do you mean i can just describe what's happening rather than build a giant rube goldberg machine to show what's happening?

i've been trying to put this into practice lately, but it's difficult when you're writing about 16th century urban politics and even figuring what scenes can or need to exist requires quite a bit of research. i think it's good advice though.

the Bolshevik century is defined by mania; by horror and wonder. the deep wound Lenin carved into the human psyche no longer bleeds but has left a knotted scar. But looking at the post-bolshevik world which has learned nothing we must assume that next time it will be deeper
