I LIKE a *lot* of shit: sci & tech (my day job!), environment & energy (ecomodernism), politics (~moderate, social-liberalism), culture & language(s), outdoors (mountains, cycling/MTB, sailing), travel, nuance & irony.

I HATE black-&-white simplism!

3/… and the underlying key point - tying in with Tim’s point - is spelt out by @jamesdaustin.bsky.social and @oldtrotter.bsky.social in further comments in the thread:

…which implies the cut-down CNS-7 is as follows (and damn this has been painful - transparent it is NOT!):
November 12, 2025 at 10:29 AM
PS I have found something which I think indicates what CNS-7 might be based on which Qs were found not to work (Spanish researchers)…

… but the relevant part also seems to cast doubt on CNS working across countries (“national groups”)!?

This is a wonderful article all about The Rut by @countrysideben.bsky.social - full of interesting details and explaining the biology and lifecycle of deer! 👏

I just sent it to my son bc he heard it for the first time on a cracking walk over Maoile Lunndaidh et al a week or so ago.

It’s not Dovedale is it?
When I was here last year it was somewhat misty!

This 👇 from a wonderful (warm!) cycle around the ‘Greenock Cut’ (aqueduct) yesterday. Amazing views and an amazing piece of Victorian engineering built to supply Greenock with water…

Lads, I found the Overton Window…

I think the Overton Window is now operating like these…

And especially 👇

Just bc one lives in eg Glasgow (or god forbid - from a (lack of) sunshine perspective - Fort William) does NOT mean all of Scotland is gloomy 🤷‍♂️

The west Highlands in winter OTOH… it’s enough to make one invent whisky.

6/ I had no idea where they were talking about & only deduced from other clues (Easter Ross) & knowing energy sector.

The BBC also called it ‘Bàgh an Neig’ a year ago 🤷‍♂️
www.bbc.co.uk/naidheachdan...

But look closely at the AAA footnotes for Nigg/Neig; they sensibly call it ‘Camas Neig’! 😏

2/ Firstly they haven’t of course bought Nigg Bay - a quite large beautiful bay and sands - at all (I will return to dissect the BBC’s odd and confusing Gaelic naming) but the *Port of Nigg* (a port & infra business).

Does ones brain being fried include not even having read or being able to parse/understand the evidence one has provided?

The exec summary pretty clears states that while storage is necessary (esp if you’re trying for high pen or 100% RE) it isn’t ready and calls for research and dev🙄

b/ there’s been a ban on on-shore wind in England no? so isn’t much of it…

…but I’d rather it was there in frankly boring agri-industrial (not natural!) farmland than ruining Scottish uplands (also NB not natural but with potential!).

And it isn’t just the turbine; it’s all the access tracks.

If you read one thing this morning, read this.

Searingly honest, (rightly) dark-humouredly scathing at times - especially on the nonsense of the dangerous self-healing inherent to this story:

I’d *eat* all of them but I’d *like* some of them more: I like good and honest food, so the supposedly “upper class” options are pretentious conspicuous consumption bs (gold, truffles, macaroni cheese w/ lobster*) & some is poor quality (frozen pizza etc) 🤷‍♂️

…middle class me!

*NB not “mac n cheese”

I’m not an expert!
But I very proud of this orchid that has appeared in the grass verge I’m rewilding outside my house!

It’s looks like a very silly self-own: a not unreasonable conclusion from their (***NB on their own silly nativist terms***) would be that they’re commenting on the Anglo-Saxon Germanic invasion and that they identify as and yearn to be Gaels resisting this… 🤷‍♂️😂

Er no: I called the specific stated Norway issue minor (feel free to apologise for your reading incomprehension)…

… plenty of the others may indeed be major issues (and safety/death is).

I am not denigrating CalMac - as I said they are (mostly) good - I’m saying the article and propaganda is bs.
June 27, 2025 at 9:14 AM
The ferry thing *is* politicised but this SNP-outrider defence of CalMac (in the face of what islanders will tell you are real issues) is just as cringe as the anti-SNP media obsession with it…

…it’s also bs: barring fleet issues, CalMac *is* good but it suggests the author hasn’t been to Norway.

Interesting by David Gauke on the centre-right but I find it confused and/or making odd assumptions!

He (correctly IMHO) notes the risk of taking on the populist/far-right on culture ↙️ ….

… but earlier quotes a report - implictly endorsing - stating 2 necessary conservative cultural positions.↘️ 🤔
