Thanks to my colleagues @mattmcewen.bsky.social , @amorvan.bsky.social, and the rest of the Google Quantum AI team! These circuits were first proposed by @mattmcewen.bsky.social , Dave Bacon, and @craiggidney.bsky.social ( arxiv.org/abs/2302.02192 )
Here we realize three novel QEC implementations:
- the surface code embedded on a hexagonal lattice
- a walking surface code
- the surface code using iSWAP gates instead of CZ gates,
each enabling a new avenue for design and optimization of QEC circuits and hardware.
