Good point. I think adoration would be appropriate. It gets at how he sees his reign as akin to the divine right of Kings. Come and behold him. (although maybe he thinks he's also the divinity...)

Or, "Try That In A Small Town." People used to hate "Okie from Muskogee" but I think there's a difference, in that Haggard's had a genuine feeling of proud defiance against perceived disloyalty, while Aldean makes it clear he's okay with sundown towns and lynching as an answer to dissent.

Also, in your section on laughing at themselves, you forgot Tricky "Sock it to me?" Dick. I guess the difference is that Nixon was well-aware of how people saw him, & made some attempts to humanize himself.
