Robinson Canó is retuning to Estrellas Orientales in the Dominican Winter League. This will be his sixth straight winter with the club and 15th overall.

We lost him three years ago this month. This one is from 13 years ago today. We miss him every day. What a good boy.

I anticipated this record with ridiculously unfair expectations. And it obliterated them.

A little research question. If you go to a team page and you see this “Follow” button, what do you think it would do?

Scantlebury was a teammate of León Kellman in eight of his seasons in Panama. I’ve been stuck writing Kellman’s SABR bio for a while now waiting to find more data from Panama. I think I’m going to just have to wrap it up in the next month or so.

Scantlebury:

Pitched in three East-West All-Star games

Pitched in four Caribbean Series

Was inducted into the Latino Baseball Hall of Fame in 2012

Could HIT (.300+ in the Negro Leagues)

Overall, I have 184-138, 3.42 ERA, .266 AVG, 11 HR, but NOTHING from Panama.

Latest stats for the 4,000 Professional Hit Club.

Here are the players with 3800+. Thanks to @cmcgill.bsky.social, we are even closer on José Cruz. Added 29 hits during the call.

And our new active leader? It’s none other than… Agustín Murillo? Playing for Hermosillo, the 43-year old passed 3,600!

polakoff is doing one of his “around the world” WhatNot shows right now. Reminded me that I snapped this one of my 67 Vennys the other day but didn’t post.

Here’s the show: www.whatnot.com/s/EJ3tta5u

Fuck it, here’s one more. “Stay Woke” is an important one to me and contains a lot of personal mantras. I can’t believe what we’re doing to our younger generations. I’m so sorry we let you down. Out for real on Friday (along with “Anti-Antifa,”‘which was shared last Friday).

I can’t tell you how much I want to read a full-length biography of Cuban P/1B/OF/MGR Lázaro Salazar. He played in Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, USA, and the Dominican Republic. A HOFer in Mexico, Cuba, and Venezuela, he won 14 league titles as manager (in 4 countries) before his tragic death at age 44.
