I'm still incredibly proud of this book. The idea to do an edited collection came when I was still a baby PhD student and I pushed a group of six colleagues to join me at a (now sadly defunct) ECPR Research Sessions in Essex in 2014. The final book was published 4 years later.

I expected the lurch to the right and the rising authoritarianism long before they came to power. I did not expect, to anwhere near the same degree, the blatent dishonesty of this Labour government.

This is not a dunk, and the whole exchange about the sandwich is genuinely pretty funny but I think many of the responses to this fundamentally misunderstand humour on the right.

They *know* it's ridiculous but that ridiculousness obscures a chilling exercise of power.

Feels indicative of a trend in the sector that a national questionnaire on the use of AI in Portuguese Higher Education is so flawed:

The second half - which you left off - is a pretty disgusting attempt to triangulate far-right talking points.

There's a study to be done in political/organizational sociology to understand Home Office politics in relation to broader national politics.

Are politicions given the HO brief because it reflects their worldview or does institutional thinking impact on their worldview (or to what extent both)?

If you want a set of images to sum up Lisbon's mayor then it's this - proudly opening a car park.

You say, "beyond the writings of George Orwell and the sounds of Northern Soul, Wigan has few claims to fame"... no mention of rugby! You can tell I wasn't a reviewer because that's grounds for rejection.

I'm seeing this applied by some to the case of Matt Goodwin when the opposite lesson should be taken there. How do professional/institutional structures promote and protect bad actors when many warned about him years ago?
