11. Patriots Path! By Morristown, NJ - you're underbiked on a gravel bike, overbiked on an MTB. A very fun ride.

10. Raritan roots! In NJ, usually the final part of a ride that ends in Raritan, NJ. Bumpy.

9. Moneyhole! Probably at the limit of "underbiking," it's a trail in Fahnestock. Rocky, but not super steep, 1-2 portage sections:

8. Nyack Beach: a five mile gravel trail connecting Nyack and Haverstraw. Relatively low traffic, some nice rolling climbs. Possible on a road bike, but I'd recommend a gravel bike:

7. Minnewaska. Endless gravel roads, amazing views, and some chill singletrack:

6. "Ron's Ruckman Diversion" - a route put together by a friend, it's a neat little loop, ideal for gravel bikes, with a fun descent, followed by a climb up Ruckman Rd through Alpine Scout Camp. Peep the KOM-holder: www.strava.com/segments/393...

5.Long Hill Road - a brutal climb, average of 10% grade for a mile (up to 27% in places!), but an amazingly fun descent.
I’ve hit 55mph on the downhill (all paved).

4. Blauvelt/tackamac - on the ridge overlooking Piermont/Nyack, parallel to 9W. Incredibly scenic, rideable on gravel bike or MTB

3. River Road. The GOAT road ride for a 2 hour ride. Cross the GWB, hang a left, and enjoy minimal traffic, rolling hills, and a hard climb at the end. You can either return on 9w (net downhill!) or make it an out-and-back

2. Graham Hills - techy MTB trails a 45 minute train ride from the city! Favorite trails are Motoweed, Orange, and Couchsurfer
November 21, 2025 at 2:21 AM
1. School Mountain! In Fahnestock State Park, by Cold Spring. 10 flowy miles of dirt, with 1000 feet of climbing (and descending!). Can be done on either gravel or mountain bike
