Imo you’re underrating the effect of much of the D establishment signaling “be afraid of Mamdani” instead of backing him. Sure, Cuomo is a crap candidate, but he got a ton of funding and was basically a second D choice in the general. If it was just Mamdani v Sliwa I think he would’ve broken 60%.

I think we saw the resistance echoed (at least via lip service) by the big corps and institutions in the first term because they didn’t think Trump would actually come after them. Now they know he will, so they’ve all caved. Feels different even if the people are showing up to fight en masse

They can talk about affordability and fighting oligarchy all they want, and should. But the #1 thing that is going to turn out the base is the promise of some accountability, any accountability, for the horrors we’ve watched unfold. Any Democrat who commits to both these things is a contender imo
