Yelling into the void from the city that Jenny Lind dubbed "the most beautiful village in the world" and "the paradise of America"

There are two attributes of roads that make people more willing to take a bike:

1. slow traffic (<25mph)
2. physically separated lanes

If you're building bicycle infrastructure without one of those, you're not going to increase ridership
Heinz-Wilhelm Eck and the SS Peleus.

Fascinating history.

We have these amazingly taxable completely selfish transportation methods but no one politically adept enough to appropriately tax them.

I'm kinda surprised (and disappointed) that there doesn't appear to be a design-and-serve-custom-map-tiles as a service option out there.

Age distribution for the last 3 census years.

I find this fascinating because
1. Our olds are the fastest growing segment of the population
2. Our olds distribution still decreases at the same rate, just later.

Fire Departments should be renamed to Medical Aid departments.

It is crazy that the B-52 bomber was last built in 1963 (62 years ago!), and the military is still actively using them in missions and plans to continue using them for the next 25 years.

The problem isn't the _ideals_ of communism or socialism, it's that checks and balances did not prevent the funneling of power and resources to a select few.

Democracy can have the same problem.

Ds need to be repeating simple shit:

"Rs are cutting medical research that benefits us all to give the top 1% a tax break."

“Rs are cutting food assistance so the top 1% can have a tax break.”

“Rs are cutting public transit investment so the top 1% can have a tax break.”

One of my favorite things is hearing the faint sound of geese, looking up and seeing hundreds of geese flying super high in the sky.

Made a giant mistake and upgraded my iPhone SE (2020) to iOS26.

Dumb dumb dumb. Battery stuck perpetually at 1%. Phone restarts every 5 minutes.

Possibly the best motto to live by:

Don't cheat. Just get better.

There's a UmassHoops forum I occasionally check out to see how the "MA Football fans" are trying to spin a winless season.

Tonight one guy talking about how UMass just needs to invest in a stadium that will be the "premier venue in western Mass for outdoor concerts going forward".

I think there might be only one thing you can’t get away with lying about in politics: the prices people are paying for goods and services. The public knows what they pay.

Misguided to design our roads to fit fire trucks instead of designing our fire trucks to fit our roads.

What’s the deal with the filibuster?
In this latest episode of my ongoing “Nerd Stuff” series, I discuss the history of the filibuster and make an argument for why you should want it gone.

In terms of Halloween candy, it drives me nuts how much extra plastic is used to make a 2-pack of wrapped Starburst and a 4-bear-pack of Haribo Gold Bears.
