Visited the Air Traffic Control Command Center in Virginia to see the critical tech upgrades we need to make our air traffic system the envy of the world. 5. Continued to investigate and support the investigations of 1,195 transportation accidents, including the midair collision of a Blackhawk helicopter operated by the U.S. Army with a CRJ-700 operated by American Airlines near Reagan National Airport, resulting in the deaths of 67 people; the airplane crash in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, that killed 7 people and injured 24 others; the airplane crash off the coast of Nome, Alaska, that killed 10 people; the ground collision that killed 1 person and seriously injured 3 others at Scottsdale Airport in Arizona; the SEPTA commuter train fire that jeopardized the lives of over 300 passengers; the MBTA train derailment that injured 10 crew and passengers in Boston; the highway crash at the I-80 tunnel in Green River, Sweetwater County, Wyoming, that killed 3 people and seriously injured 13 others; and numerous fatal aviation accidents in Ririe, Idaho, Marana, Arizona, Covington, Georgia, Pierson, Florida, Skull Valley, Utah, and Crum Lynn, Pennsylvania. Yesterday, our Office of Railroads, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Investigations launched to Hutchinson, Kansas, to investigate a fire, gas leak, and explosion that jeopardized the lives of emergency responders, residents, and business owners.

An excerpt from the article: Automakers are likely spending time calculating what it will cost to move supplier, assembly, or manufacturing operations back to the US. This is not just a matter of swapping one widget for another, which means responding to tariffs could take automakers months, if not years. Any component change requires testing and calibration, says Dan Hearsch, who leads the US automotive practice at AlixPartners, an industry consultant. “Vehicles carry people’s lives,” he says. “These things have to work, and they have to last. That’s what’s at risk when [automakers] don’t do the right thing when moving production or shifting supply.”
