🎉 #Barcoding results from specimens collected in the Mals field-workshop are in — thank you Marko Mutanen!
🧬We confirmed IDs of tricky specimens (mostly microleps), adding 43 new species to @projectpsyche.bsky.social and identifying 14 that need recollection.

Thanks to all who took part!

(5/7) 🗻Why Mals? With more than 3,000 species recorded, its rich biodiversity and pesticide-free approach make it a living lab. It’s also been a long-term study site for the @soceurlep.bsky.social.

(4/7) The goal: to understand how species adapt to climate change, pesticide pressure, and habitat loss. Results could guide conservation, pest management, and even uncover hidden species.

Of course, genomes only make sense in their ecological context 🌿.
The team documented habitats in Shebenik National Park and Mali i Tatë to link environment with evolutionary history.
👉 That concludes the first STSM of #10kLepGenomes — and marks a strong start for the project!

Together, they focused on two key species: 𝘊𝘰𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘯𝘺𝘮𝘱𝘩𝘢 𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘴 & 𝘊. 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳.
Both will serve as reference genomes for @projectpsyche.bsky.social , helping clarify taxonomy, gene flow & hybridization.
