For me, feminism is so much more. It’s about people’s fundamental right to a fulfilling life irrespective of their gender. It’s about intersectionality and all the ways society organizes according to arbitrary hierarchies that need toppling before men, women, and everyone in between can be free

Plus, the undertones of “choosing to stay in the home” also reek of gender essentialism. Like this is one of the things women are MEANT to do.

Why are these the only options? I chafe against this binary that keeps women in a box

Of course it’s feminist to extend the choice of caretaking to all genders. It’s also feminist to dismantle capitalism so that no one needs to sell their labor to have basic necessities

These are more complex concepts that “a woman’s right to choose to stay in the home” doesn’t really encapsulate

Implicit in this framing is that men are still not expected to take on childcare as a noble pursuit; either the woman stays home or has a career & outsources childcare.

Also implicit is that the default is the homemaking role, when for many WOC, the default was working outside the home
