Exciting news!

Four new UN World Restoration Flagships have been unveiled! From reviving biodiversity to restoring degraded landscapes — these initiatives showcase win-win solutions for people and the planet.

Three people wearing sun hats, gloves, and outdoor gear walk up a rocky hillside covered in sparse vegetation under a bright blue sky with scattered clouds. One person carries a rolled-up paper, another holds a notebook, and the third looks out toward the horizon. The scene conveys scientific fieldwork or environmental monitoring in a natural landscape. White text on the image reads: “Healthy nature for better food systems: UN awards new World Restoration Flagships.” The UN Environment Programme logo appears in the top right corner.

So, who’s in those yard waste bags? 👀

🐛 Moths
🦋 Butterflies
💡 Fireflies
🦎 Salamanders
🐝 Native Bees

A new study shows that when you dispose of your leaves, you’re also throwing away about 45% of your spring butterfly and moth populations. 📉

We are delighted to introduce you to Shedding Light, a new permanent display.

Through the creation of a 1950-60s Caribbean living room, Shedding Light reveals the intertwined histories of colonialism, enslavement, sugar production, and ceramics.

It’s time for #HeritageFromAbove
Do you know where we are today? Hint: Its ruins were superimposed by a Makurian defensive fort (1250-1340 AD), a monastery of St. George in which the Nubian King Solomon was buried. Send your answers in the comments below and as usual good luck! #Quiz

Fly agaric is probably the most beautiful and recognisable fungus. The unseen network of mycelium wraps around the roots supplying nutrients taken from the soil. In exchange, the fungus receives sugars produced by the trees - everything wins!
