Oh my.
Behold, the Sword of Power! Excalibur! For anyone waiting for things from me, this is why: my brain has been consumed by John Boorman and Excalibur, both of them dear to my heart. The restoration is stunning, and finally presents the film in the right aspect ratio on home video... 🧵1/8

AI buffoonery aside, this is one of my favorite non-Onion headlines of the year.

To me, ego is best used as an invisible engine driving you that no one should see.

That said...

I have made a living from writing now for 30+ years. It was never easy, never lucrative, sometimes brutal, and always risky. It was the only thing I ever said I wanted to do in life. And I did it.

Got two of these emails. Even if it'd been written by a human I would never buy into anyone gushing about my work like that.
Using ai to put personal details in the scam emails, "you've done THIS and THIS and THIS," and honestly I was momentarily touched before I realized no human soul sent the email.

Writing can be a lonely pursuit. I hate that they're exploiting our very human vulnerabilities for minor gain.
Writers: Bots are sweeping through Amazon's reviews and emailing authors with gushing scams like "Only 2 reviews for a thrilling work like this?! Jesus wept! I can get your brilliant words in front of yadda yadda yadda..."

Please do not fall for the okey doke.

I don't think I've ever considered supporting a fellow author by saying don't buy his books, but here we are.

2025 may have to become a neonoir verb.
"Why don't you go 2025 yourself, mister."
"Oh, a 2025er, eh?"
"Boss, we 2025ed him real good but he's slippery, boy."
Hey, it’s #MondayReads time! Think of it like a key party, but you know, with books! Retweet this tweet and tell us what you want retweeted. Me, I’ve found out my publisher is not who they said they were. Please do not buy my books. I will receive no portion of the funds. #BookSky #PayYourAuthors

I’m so sure it’s gotten to the point that I’m telling people not to buy my books because my publisher won’t honour our contract. Who keeps my percentage of a sale? Who receives the money? Not me, apparently. So fucking shitty.

Tiz the season but never need a reason to watch An American Werewolf in London...

It’s #FridayReads time and still Latine Heritage Month! Let’s boost all signals. Repost this and let us know what to repost for you. Here’s a (45% off!) Stoker/Locus/Goodreads finalist that’s perfect for spooky season: dark magic, old gods, revenge, blood, and ghosts.

Contributor copy day is always a good day.

Also fun when the editors pick your story to lead off an issue. "Grampy Dargle" is one mean old bastard. Thanks @erykpruitt.bsky.social!

Having pleasant flashbacks to the 90s when I worked at Berkley and wrote the jacket copy for the first novels in this series.

A career lifetime ago, it seems, but very happy to see these come back into print. Congrats @cgolden.bsky.social.

Palate cleanser: One of the best editors I ever worked with, Tom McGrath, is also one of the best nonfiction writers out there. His new profile of Eagles coach Nick Sirianni for @phillymag.com is terrific even if you're not a football fan.

Inside the Mind of Nick Sirianni
Eleven months ago, we wanted him fired. Now a Super Bowl champion, he’s proven everyone wrong. And it all starts with one thing.
