Ozyman, Ozyman-
dias does what no mortal can
and his works? are they there?
no, but maybe still despair
This is just to say

I have looked on
the works
that were in
the desert

and which
you were probably
thinking
would still stand

Forgive me
they were trunkless
so vast
and so old
Once upon a desert sandy
As through winds the trav'ling man he
Spied the face of Ozymandy
Lying, simply lying there
Suddenly there was some writing
Pon the plinth that he was sighting
That the sand and time were blighting
Quoth the statue, "Now despair"

Make Abhorrent Ideas Socially Unacceptable Again
Yes. All the empirics on misinformation indicate that the way to defeat bad ideas is to mock and marginalize them. Constantly declaring "hey the far right isn't so bad" is a terrible strategy both morally and electorally.

Dems should be way more comfortable saying "look at these fucking psychos"
Progressives really hope, and maybe even believe, that there is some magic thing they can hijack to attract conservative voters.

The focus on this mythical quest is the central reason they lose.

so the process of writing is a process of realizing how imperfect and incomplete that idea was, and actually working out all the rest of it. writing, in other words, is a process of thinking: a particularly disciplined one, that takes you from a warm feeling to a genuine reality.

When we first heard that Bari Weiss had been hired as the new editor-in-chief at CBS News, we knew we had to call in the Cancel Guncle himself, @michaelhobbes.bsky.social!

An interestingand hilarious conversation ensued... www.youtube.com/watch?v=qNlW...

No Kings protests were one of the few times Trump, MAGA, and right-wing media were reacting to something the opposition did, rather than the opposition reacting to whatever they do.
Adopt a principle from war strategy: generally better to be taking action and forcing opponents to react. Good point.
Point five is really important. The protests provoked errors from the administration (shit force one) that may haunt them for years. That’s what happens when you stop being reactive.

In a move surprising exactly no one, I took the opportunity to talk about The Ragpicker again.
This is a poetic post-apocalypse ruminative road trip novel, but it's also good, in large part because it's interested in unpicking the stoic masculinity that usually underpins that kind of story. Thanks to Kerstin Hall for bringing it to us and for the discussion - read Asunder if you haven't.
Wizards Vs. Lesbians: BONUS: THE RAGPICKER
Kerstin Hall of Asunder fame joins us to discuss a book about aging and the end of the world. (It turns out aging isn't the end of the world, but the end of the world isn't the end of the world either...
