This is, all around, some pretty profound sh’t:
there's a great book called The Little Black Book of Violence which is mostly about this -- the number one rule of fighting is don't get into a fight, learn to recognize when things are headed that way and do everything possible to avoid it.
I think a lot of people grossly overestimate their own ability to respond to physical violence, especially when the other individual intends serious physical harm.
