Idk if this comparison is effective but like say you worked for company A and company B came and fired you and your team after they took over A. Now your basic needs are at risk.

I wouldn’t send you a video praising company B under any circumstances.

Don’t send me, a photog, gen ai content.🥲

Also, if a website doesn’t have the extension “.gov.jm” it is NOT a Jamaican government site. Please share the details from that IG post far and wide to help prevent well-meaning people from being defrauded. #HurricaneMelissa
Even worse. Let down the side.
The Governnent of Jamaica has established a disaster relief portal that can be found at the URL below. It includes a comprehensive needs list of supplies and equipment, as well as information for sending monetary donations locally and from abroad. #HurricaneMelissa

I just saw the Jamaica Gleaner post that the government has identified 28 fake hurricane relief websites so far. There must be some special sort of cosmic justice for people who take events like #HurricaneMelissa as an opportunity to scam people.
This is exactly how I have been feeling about the Japan Times since their acquisition by News2u. The shift was undeniable.
It is frankly disgusting how craven, mean, and stupid Japan Times’ editorial voice has become since the paper was purchased by News2u nearly a decade ago. I know a lot of fine editors and reporters there and this sort of crap sorely misrepresents their work.
Commentary: Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and U.S. President Donald Trump have the facts on their side. Now they need to learn how to tell their story before others tell it for them.
I guess I recounted all this to day, whenever the news media here and uyoku nut jobs on social media blame any sort of rowdy incident on foreigners, take that with a mountain of salt.
My friend who gave me the details escaped with a black eye, but here is a situation where a foreigner-involved altercation took place that was not instigated by the foreigners involved.
What happened next? Those women’s heavily tatted up YAKUZA-affiliated boyfriends did not take kindly to this and proceeded to start yelling at and then physically assaulting my colleagues. Fortunately, they were able to make it out of there only with cuts and bruises…
The night before, a group of them had gone out in Omiya for karaoke. They were in their room singing and having a good time, when I crew of drunk, heavily tatted up (the importance of this detail will soon become apparent) women barged in and sat down, drinking and chatting up my co-workers…
I asked the assistant manager what the problem was, and she told me that a few teachers had called in sick with injuries and they were trying to get their classes covered. What had happened to these teachers, you might be wondering? Here’s what:
Story time:

Some years ago, when I was working for an eikaiwa company based in Saitama, I rolled up to work one day to see panic and a flurry activity with stressed out Japanese staff members making phone calls and furiously typing emails…
And sometimes, these interactions can take a turn from annoying to dangerous..
And then getting especially weird if we’re a group of women, more so if we’re a group of Black women. Just super icky vibes while my friends and I are just minding our own business and trying to have a good time…
I can’t count the number of times, I have been out with a group of people (usually a mixed group of foreigners and Japanese people) only to have some drunk Japanese people join our table, being super loud and obnoxious…
So, here’s the thing about nightlife in Tokyo that I have experienced: there is almost always a group of drunk Japanese people who, when they see a group of foreigners out together, take that as permission to show their asses in the worst way…
So, it’s October 31 in Japan and with the messaging about not being rowdy in Tokyo for Halloween being targeted at foreigners following the scapegoating of foreigners for the mayhem in Shibuya a few years back, I just need to get a little something off my chest…

Here’s a comparison:

When Hurricane Gilbert hit Jamaica in September 1988, it was the seventh storm of the season and a category 3. And I saw Gilbert blow down a fully grown tree in my yard.

Now, in October Melissa is the thirteenth storm of the season and is a category 5.
Jamaica could face one of the strongest landfall storms in its recorded history as Hurricane Melissa moves through the Caribbean. Forecasters predict it will hit the island as an “upper-end” Category 4 hurricane on Tuesday. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/26/w...

In Jamaica, WCK partner Mystic Thai prepared meals ahead of Hurricane Melissa’s arrival. Plates of chicken curry were served to families sheltering from the storm. With our local partners, we’re ready to begin serving more meals as soon as it’s safe after Melissa’s landfall. #ChefsForJamaica
