I’ve seen people forced to pack the little belongings they have because they were told they are moving, being put into a taxi to get to the office, and then being sent back in a taxi to the same place they were staying in. The HO needs to be abolished.
Dismal framing. Every aspect of most asylum seekers’ lives is controlled & paid for by the Home Office. They can’t work, are told where to live & have no autonomy or dignity. So they aren’t *choosing* to use taxis & don’t need to be “banned” from doing so. The HO just needs to get its act in order.
Government to ban asylum seekers from using taxis
The ban is set to come in February and any exemptions will have to be signed off by the Home Office.

It's also an example of the underlying problem being the same cruelty that they now think will solve it!

The reason for expensive taxis is that they restricted bus travel to appease the same people!

The additional context is that Valve is still killing a beloved games studio, still tried to weasel out of making a press statement, still didn't allow a second review, and still did not communicate with the developer beyond vague references to their terms.

The central delusion of Thatcherism is the idea politicians can destroy the postwar settlement and replace it with nothing, which in practice turns out to always be panicking governments shoring up the systems they vandalised fuck out of, using sticky tape and wood glue.

This is like the UBI study in that we've done it, like, five times and no one gives a shit because the people who are passing legislation against trans people don't actually care about trans suicide, they like trans suicide, they want it to happen
"[G]ender-affirming care saves lives."

"Suicidality scores among the [study's] patients who provided responses dropped by over 67 percent."

"[O]f the hundreds of patients who started hormone therapy, only seven discontinued their treatment."

But it’s ok, NHS Sussex ICB are on it with a dedicated helpline. That should fix things. The evidence for the efficacy of helplines is legendary.

SEEN needs to spell out how astonishingly improper this is. A Gender Critical activist ‘journalist’ openly admits he was “invited to address the judge” in a criminal trial, even though he says himself he “doesn’t technically have standing”. This should NEVER happen in court.

Incredible how pretty much any sufficiently widely seen post saying "I think it's bad how people are prejudiced to trans people" inevitably attracts a whole host of replies going "But I don't see why you won't consider that trans people aren't real so prejudice against them doesn't count/matter?"
yes I don't really see how you can go "oh yikes these people have changed their political views incredibly quickly, mostly because of what Very Online people talk about on social media" and also think that people who went from never talking about gender to calling trans women predators are....normal
I don’t like subtweeting people I consider online friends, but there is a subset of people who are very worried about the ongoing radicalisation of our political elite but won’t ever acknowledge the echoes with the radicalisation of their colleagues on trans rights

Another consequence of the Supreme Court's hypocritical right wing activist decisions: protesters are allowed to physically block access to abortion providers, harass & abuse women seeking healthcare there for any reason, but this isnt allowed of protestors anywhere else for any other reason
Embattled reproductive healthcare providers and patients in the US are already dealing with unprecedented harassment and intimidation. The resurgence of blockades as a tactic carries significant potential for radicalizing participants to violence.

Sometimes think 'immigration' in GB politics these days is the equivalent of 'popery' in the 18th and 19th centuries. We must curb this existential threat, we must sharply distinguish the status of those who truly belong here from those who are merely tolerated, but we have no truck with bigotry!
PM describes net migration of 205k as "a step in the right direction". His govt has no public position on a sustainable level of immigration is, nor any known process to decide what, why & how. Starmer is now implying he wants it significantly lower
