This is a VERY large earthquake, possibly/probably among the 10 largest ever recorded. A clear subduction zone megathrust event. And it is another M>8.5 event with a notable foreshock (the recent M7.4 in same location), like Tohoku in 2011.

House Approps comm. Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies subcomm. Dems really dislike this bill. Grateful to @morelle.house.gov for pointing out it doesn't provide enough $ for science agencies, including #NSF. I hope @delauro.house.gov and all the Dems push for something better. #CJS

Call your Senators and House Reps to point out what an egregious example of waste, fraud, and abuse this would be. HUD Sec Turner is asking for extensive renovations including a private elevator, gym, and luxury dining room for himself and his cronies.
NEW: NSF will be kicked out of their building. Announcement will be made tomorrow by HUD Sec. and Governor of VA. HUD will take over the NSF building over the next two years.
NSF staffer: "There is no planning for NSF, no identified future location, appropriation for a new building or a move."
