my local theater (new parkway in oakland) still basically does this
On a related note GOD I miss when the pre show ad roll in movie theaters was a sedate slideshow of local roller skating rinks while calm Muzak played. Movie theaters are such miserable places to spend time now

im going to push back on this as unfair to cats (no disrespect to the author here): cats actually compromise significantly with you and happily create community with you. they shit and piss in a litter box, they create shared spaces by mixing their scents with yours, they dont demand outdoor time
