Modest gains made during the ceasefire – destroyed.

We must not accept the aid blockade.

In 2024, the DRC was the largest recipient in the world of US humanitarian assistance

In fact, the UN's humanitarian response in the DRC is funded 70% by the US

Yday, @UN_Lemarquis warned that USAID cuts have a severe impact on aid operations to the DRC

There's been a lot of talk lately (and rightly so) about the impact of USAID cuts on the humanitarian sector, but I've seen less about the impact of the US's other directives, such as anti-anything Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Accessibility -- until now: odihpn.org/publication/...

Most reporting on the M23 crisis in DR Congo is using mistaken framings, suggesting the conflict is purely driven by a desire to plunder the region’s rich mineral resources. Opinion from @judithverweijen.bsky.social and @ethuin.bsky.social: ⬇️
Why conflict mineral narratives don’t explain the M23 rebellion in DR Congo

Attacking Diversity, Inclusion, Equity is attacking #humanitarian principles! The #US administration systematic erasure of #DEI cannot lead to compromise on impartial and inclusive humanitarian action. Let us not throw under the bus those already pushed behind! Read my new blog on #HPN 👇👇

Just to be clear, in the context of humanitarian assistance, a demand from BHA to halt "Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Accessibility" initiatives is a direct assault on the humanitarian principle of impartiallity, and should be directly and forcefully called out as such.
