I understand this sentiment but I think the specific bet that Thiel was making with Vance was that Trump won’t make a full term. If he doesn’t, Vance‘s popularity among the factions is much less of an issue
Vance is hated by everyone and there’s no way any majority would coalesce to support him.

There’s a sort of Dunning-Kruger effect happening where people who read widely, consider various perspectives, and put in effort to understand views they disagree with worry that they don’t do that enough, while people who don’t do any of that accuse others of being in a bubble and call it a day.

A dark money group named Puppy and Apple Pie Loving Maine Voters Against Nazism will spend $40 million carpet bombing the state with ads of the guy with the Nazi tattoo

My dad was a union tradesman, my hands are soft AF and I’m good with that. Because of course, that’s the whole idea! Upward mobility for yhe next generation is the core of the 20th century American Dream

"men who clearly have hang-ups about their ability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity" is a society-wide issue. There's a reason pickup truck sales have continued going up (to the degree the F-150 is now America's best selling vehicle) even as blue collar employment has gone down
i mean i don't think you can separate any of this discussion from the fact that so many of the participants are men who clearly have hang-ups about their inability to perform a certain kind of blue collar masculinity
