Unfortunately I haven’t seen many people talk about this but it deserves a lot of attention right now. Canadian democracy is under threat by institutions that should be fostering it. McGill is “obeying in advance” the hidden orders of the tyrant in Middle East.

This is what he does to journalists now, you better believe he’ll do his best to obliterate real journalism, access to truth, and free speech if God forbid he gets elected.
Poilievre just called CTV News’ Judy Trinh a “protester” because she dared try to ask him a question outside of the incredibly rigid four-questions-no-follow-up process his party has.

Very cool stuff

Trump’s executive order aims to cut library services to the absolute minimum. This will threaten services like libby, hoopla, and so many other great things that democratize access to media and education. Go to the link below to sign the petition and contact your reps if you’re in the U.S.

Do not travel to the US.

Tell people who aren't as tuned into the daily news about all this. I've run into people who weren't so aware of what's going on.

Stay away from America.
If nothing else, read this for info abt what might happen to you at the border, even as a US citizen

Also: remember to turn off face & fingerprint access. They can use those by force, but they can’t force you to open your phone with a passcode.

In case you need more proof that we’re in fascism
A Michigan lawyer and US citizen was detained by CBP for *representing* a student anti-genocide protester.

Wow this had a much needed clarification for me on Jessica Wetz’s saga with the NDP. Jagmeet who immediately picked on Carney’s chief of staff to pick up Arab votes, did this to a woman who simply talked about dehumanization of children of Gaza. Shame on NDP for how they treated her.
Well folks, we made it. It’s Friday the 13th (day of the election).

On the campaign trail today, there were some announcements -- and there were quite a few blunders.

Two more candidates also got the boot.

Oh, and did you hear? I had a little announcement of my own today!

This year my goal is to do much of lesson 13! It has quickly become one of my favourite lessons of the book.
Lesson 13: "Practice corporeal politics... Put your body in unfamiliar places with unfamiliar people. Make new friends and march with them."

***There will be chances to practice corporeal politics all over the USA on April 5th.***
Find yours here: handsoff2025.com
Here is my best guidance for action, rendered beautifully by the great John Lithgow. I first published these lessons more than eight years ago, in late 2016. They open the twenty chapters of "On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century."

You can hear the full call in the video Rachel released today. If CTV thought the disingenuous right-wing troll campaign was bad, they should experience way worse for throwing Rachel under the bus like this.
I’m devastated, but I’m also angry. I’m angry because this is an attack on press freedom.

If opportunities can be stripped from journalists simply because enough people repeat the same bad-faith narrative, how can anyone withstand the career impact of doing work that matters?

It’s stunning how the Executive Producer acknowledges she knows the hate Rachel has to deal with, but says CTV — a large news organization — doesn’t have the “bandwidth” to deal with it, so cuts ties with Rachel and continues to leave her to deal with it on her own. Shameful isn’t even the word.

Absolutely shameful that CTV caved to a disingenuous right-wing pressure campaign instead of standing their ground. It presents even more red flags about the state of the media in Canada.

@rachelgilmore.bsky.social did not deserve to be treated this way.
