Makes me think of an argument I heard once that paying restaurant servers a livable hourly wage would result in lazy service because they’d no longer be thirsty for tips. It’s fully illogical but sounds good to people who don’t want to spend the money.

I didn’t think Wicked was awful! I thought it was honestly pretty mesmerizing and I say that as a longtime fan of the stage show. I’m exhausted by how many brands are doing limited edition pink and green right now, but that has nothing to do with what’s actually onscreen. Looking forward to part 2.

Okay, so the thing is… Jennifer Lopez has never sounded better than she does in Kiss of the Spider Woman. I’m not sure how much studio magic is involved, but she sounds glorious. I don’t think we need to pretend she’s the next Streisand, but let’s not pretend the woman cannot sing.

Going to see one of my favorite plays in Philly this Friday and trying to find someone to go with me has been like pulling teeth. Top notch theater with a top notch cast and this sports-obsessed town pays it dust. This never happened to me in New York! Everybody wanted to go see a broadway show!

I’m a big William Finn fan (RIP) and outside of Spelling Bee his shows don’t get produced that often anymore. The Arden is doing “Falsettos” right now and I haven’t seen it done since the broadway revival a decade ago.
