Sad to read that Berlin’s premier Kölsch redoubt Stadtklause has been forced move from its charming spot near Anhalter Bahnhof.
I was at that Green Man gig. The complete Lilac Time set and Plant’s gorgeous reinvention of Friends were the highlights. Still idly dreaming of a Lilac Time and XTC double header!
Who in their right mind would vote any other way when presented the choice of this guy or the Reform grifter? You’ve only got to look at what’s going on in Kent to see that they are utterly incompetent in office.
Good news from Madrid. Taberna Oliveros (est 1857) is open again after being shuttered for a couple of years.
Canibal and Cervecería Oldenburg in Madrid.
The Sunday Post…and the Laurieston.

Possibly the most Scottish thing there is…
A superb piece of writing that really evokes the fragile state of play our pubs are in.

But I applaud the optimism. We’ve already got the pub infrastructure. We just need the right people to run them.

In other words, we need an army of Hazels!
I do remember Young’s acknowledging the move to Bedford via the blurb on their beer mats. But, as Roger points out, there was at least an effort to maintain tradition.

The Wolverhampton move reeks of gormless cynicism. What a betrayal of a great beer.
I didn’t realise the fate of Young’s. What a travesty.
I always wanted to put the old chrome GB letters on the boot of my Aston Martin DB5 for European traveling. Probably the Swiss alps, Goldfinger-style.

But it’s out of the question as I can’t afford a DB5.
Franz D. Hofer’s writing is superb. A pint in a Zoigl pub now on the travel hit list.
Paul Pry
Plough (Deansway)
Green Dragon (Tything)
All good boozers….
What a shame - they’d be a tragic loss.
Great pub.

But, on a recent visit, I was alarmed to see the impasse classics L’Imaige Nostre-Dame and Au Bon Vieux Temps both shuttered with evidence of vandalism.

Anyone shed any light?
The “Banal Nationalism” article is superb. I’ve despaired at pub culture being hijacked for a “good old days” narrative which is only a whisker away from all sorts of conspiracy theorising such as Covid denial and chem trail paranoia.
Couldn’t you find anybody else?
Alas not in Romania and not, it would seem, in the UK.

Superb piece of writing. Was going to big up my GBP…and then decided against it.
Navarro really is a piece of work.

An economic illiterate whose knowledge of China bleeds into blatant racism.
It could be because I’m in Spain.
Don’t think it’s behind a paywall.
In the article she says she loves “Orchard pudding and roast beef”.

Either the hack is tone deaf or she really meant Orchard pudding.

Not Yorkshire pudding…which is full of carbs.
