Meteors impact the Moon: 2 meteors impact the moon a couple days apart. Impacts are fairly common as the many craters show, but catching that on film is uncommon. www.iflscience.com/watch-as-two...

Micro Meteorites: Climate Change is being understood better by scientists studying this space dust. "It will help us understand warming, predict changes to food webs and fishing, and prepare for geopolitical shifts." www.space.com/science/clim...

Panspermia: A theory called "panspermia" suggests that lifeforms can spread to new planets by hitching rides on meteors and meteorites. Scientists are surprised by the hardiness of living creatures and the extreme environments that they can survive in. Life may take * number of forms in our galaxy

Melted Glass Collision: At first this might look like typical windshield damage caused by a stone, but closer investigation reveals the glass melted, not broke. On Oct. 19, South Australian vet Dr Andrew Melville-Smith’s car was truck leaving damage unlike anything repairers had ever seen. Meteorite

Ancient Ice: Real H2O ice. Approx 6 million years ago, tiny bubbles of air became trapped inside ice in Antarctica and have remained sealed ever since, preserving clues to Earth’s ancient atmosphere like a prehistoric time capsule. This area was 22 degrees warmer during this time compared to today.

Meteorite Ownership: Daily, about 48.5 tons of space rock impacts the Earth. The ones that crash on land can spark debates about legal ownership. on private land, the landowner typically owns it; on public land, ownership varies by country and land management agency, finders keepers or the gov owned

Comet Week: Three comets, the dusty space snowballs that are hurtling through our cosmic backyard toward our sun. First Comet Lemmon and SWAN graced our skies now Comet 3I/ATLAS. It's perihelion, which it is closest to the sun has it's tail long and vivid.

Climate Change: Greenhouse gas concentrations increased by a record amount in 2024 as more carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide became locked in Earth's atmosphere, a World Meteorological Organization report finds. Grad school thesis was Paleoclimatology...know the past, understand the present

2 Comets: Comets Lemmon and SWAN will reach their zenith Oct. 20 & 21. Both are technically visible to the naked eye in very dark skies, but binoculars will help. Checkout the NW sky near the Big Dipper. Look left of the handle of the Big Dipper at approximately the same direction of its handle.

Orionids 2025:Comets Lemmon & SWAN will be at their brightest for the annual Orionid meteor shower from Halley's Comet reaches its peak. After dark on Monday, Oct. 20, through Tuesday, Oct. 21, the annual meteor shower produced by Halley's Comet peaks as 2 recently detected comets reach their zenith

Aussie Glass: Tektites in Australia appears to be from giant asteroid impact 11 million years ago. The problem is no meteorite impact crater has been located to date and was a large impact. Chemical signature show they are unique. Other tektites in Australia and Asia are from impact 800K years ago.

17 lb. meteorite: On a recent expedition to Antarctica, researchers discovered five perfectly-preserved meteorites. Scientists recently scooped up one of the heaviest meteorites ever discovered in Antarctica, plus four other space rocks that likely crashed into the icy area thousands of years ago.

India: A 1.1 mile wide, 500 feet deep crater which was made when a meteorite impacted. This crater in the Lonar Region of India in the famous Deccan Plateau. The meteorite was estimated to weigh about 2 tons and impacted 52k to 570K years ago. It is proposed it be made a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Gold: Every wonder how gold happened to be on Earth. We can thank mainly The Late Heavy Bombardment, which occurred approximately 4.1 to 3.8 billion years ago. Scientists have shown that Earth became enriched with many precious metals by impacting meteorites. Fortunately it was post core formation.

Antarctic Meteorites: A study warns that 5,000 meteorites could be sinking beneath Antarctica's icy surface every year as a result of climate change. Thousands of meteorites are currently spread across, or just below, Antarctica's icy surface. These space rocks could be lost forever as they sink.

Diamonds: Diamonds usually form in the cubic system but recently diamonds in the hexagonal xtl system have been discovered. These diamonds, known as lonsdaleite, are believed to be harder than ordinary cubic diamonds. First found in the Canyon Diablo meteorite, it is from the intense pressure.

Light pollution: It is the bane for many of us Earth bound folks around the world. Space based telescopes are above our Earthly light pollution. Outdoor lighting for buildings, roads and advertising are useful, but drown out night sky with light pollution. Thankfully groups have set up places to go.

Dino Killer: A killer 7 mile wide asteroid hit the Earth at 27,000 mph around 66 million years ago. Where is it now? With the energy of about 8 billion times a WWII-era nuclear bomb, the asteroid basically vaporizes. It left it's mark with death, Chicxulub crater and a gray iridium layer worldwide.

City Killer: Scientists are considering launching a nuclear bomb at an asteroid that could possibly hit the moon in 2032. They are keeping their options open as more research is needed. Asteroid 2024 YR4 was discovered in Dec. 2024. It is viewed as good practice if it is needed for Earth in future.

Red Planet Meteorite: Earth isn't the only planet with alien rocks. NASA's Mars Exploration Rover Opportunity found this iron meteorite on the surface of Mars. The first meteorite ever found on another world. The the 10" sized rock, found near Opportunity's heat shield, is mostly nickel and iron.

Tagish Lake: In January 2000, a meteoroid exploded over Tagish Lake in southwestern Canada, scattering the frozen lake with at least 22 pounds of meteorites. Research found significant difference in chemical and geological origin. Some contained amino acids and biochemical building blocks of life.
