Great presentations from the lab this week at #ashg25.
For #postdoc appreciation week, we sat down with Dr. Aya Kamzinain the Division of Early Detection and Prevention at TGen, to learn more about her work and role as a postdoc. Full blog at bit.ly/48jnkT6

Interesting @nebanovich.bsky.social @florisbarthel.bsky.social glad we just installed an @elembio.bsky.social Aviti24 @tgenresearch.bsky.social. @aphillippy.bsky.social is this with standard cloudbreak chemistry or the high accuracy ultraQ chemistry
Definitely hard to measure, but here is our best attempt from a new benchmarking paper to be preprinted in the next few weeks. Element appears to be the current king of homopolymers. Illumina does worse than HiFi beyond 20 bp. (This is all measured on human DNA)
Researchers have identified 2 proteins that could serve as new biomarkers for #pancreatic #cancer. These protein markers can help distinguish cancer from non-cancer and track how patients are responding to treatment. This offers a new direction for the early detection & monitoring. bit.ly/4mbboX0

Yesterday was the last day of @tgenresearch.bsky.social's summer internship supported by the Helios foundation. Bittersweet to say goodbye but happy to see them presenting their great work. Special congrats to Francesca, Lauren, and Yafnelt who were recognized for their outstanding presentations.
Breakthrough news in the fight against lung cancer! 🚨 A new study shows how molecules from a patient's own immune cells (natural killer cells) could reawaken the body's defenses to combat tough tumors for hard-to-treat lung cancers; harnessing the body's own natural killer cells to fight back.
Building the evidence base for engaging all populations in genomics research is key for Participant Engagement and Cancer Genome Sequencing Network (PE-CGS). The newest paper introduces a new framework & strategies for involving community members in #cancer #genomics #research. lnkd.in/gjj-WQ8n

But not all mutations block all anti-BCMA therapies from binding and we at @tgenresearch.bsky.social and @cityofhope.bsky.social are integrating the known binding of these agents into our whole genome sequencing reports to ensure patients get the therapy that will work best for them at that point
TGen scientists have found a new weakness in a rare ovarian cancer that might help us treat it better. This could mean new and improved treatments are on the way, even for cancers that were hard to treat before. More at www.tgen.org/news/study-r.... #OvarianCancer #Research
2/2This study is a big step towards:
💡 Understanding liver disease better, especially in people who might not seem at risk
🔍 Catching problems earlier and helps prevent serious health problems in the future - Such as Liver Cancer, Liver Failure, Cirrhosis, and other related diseases like diabetes.
Liver disease can affect anyone, not just those who are overweight 🤔 A Study found that even healthy-weight people can have fat in their liver, & it might be because of their genes. Learning about these genes can help doctors figure out who's at risk & improve care for everyone.

Congratulations to Daniel D. Von Hoff, M.D., F.A.C.P., distinguished professor at TGen and @cityofhope.bsky.social, on being recognized at the #AACR25 Partners in Progress Reception for his immeasurable contributions to AACR, cancer research and patient care!
🧬 Today is National DNA Day 🧬
We wouldn't be where we are today without the hard work of Friedrich Miescher (1869) and Rosalind Franklin, James Watson, and Francis Crick (1953). Thanks to their contributions, the foundation of genetics and genomic sciences is strong.
TGen is proud to present at the 2025 @theaacr.bsky.social Annual Meeting.

Be sure to stop by the @cityofhope.bsky.social and TGen booth at the Exhibit Hall from April 27 - 30.
