It's unconscionable that the Trump administration is withholding money for SNAP that their own department of agriculture said was available, and I'm glad many state AGs are suing to stop them from holding SNAP money hostage (it's too bad Miyares won't join and stand up for Virginians) (1/4)

In the U.S., we use prisoners as a source of income for the powerful, because our prison system originated with our chattel slavery system. This rate increase approval is the intentional result of that system, fought for by sheriffs and wardens and state legislators and huge corporations.
Today was a hard day. Regulations that we passed unanimously last year, after 7 years of advocacy, were largely gutted. The FCC capitulated to the correctional telecom industry in roughly doubling rate caps for prison and jail calls. I'm truly sorry.

All morning was spent chasing ICE out of my neighborhood in Chicago (Avondale) and meeting other neighbors who were out patrolling on foot, on bikes, and in cars. A caravan of ICE SUVs got within a half block of my house. I finally had to use my whistle. It works. It drew others out to the street.

This is very sad news. Eugene was a Charlottesville icon. Civil rights organizer. (He led he fight to desegregate the schools.) Affordable-housing innovator. Exceedingly generous to all with his time and, to the poor, his money. Successful businessman. A kind, loving man. We'll miss him terribly.
Eugene Williams, the local civil rights leader and affordable housing advocate, has died at 97. One of the last cover stories in The Hook was about Eugene Williams and his experience growing up in Jim Crow Charlottesville.

Look at eg Genesis 40:15, Exodus 21:16 , Deuteronomy 24:7--

This is some very sad news. What an amazing lady she was. It's a privilege to have shared time on this planet with her. The fight goes on, and I know I'll continue to be inspired by her courage and determination.
