The controversy over the Heritage Foundation illustrates the collapse of intellectual standards on the right—a profound problem that Donald Trump has exploited and exacerbated, @jonathanbchait.bsky.social argues.
The Conservative Movement’s Intellectual Collapse
Trump is both a product and a cause of the decline in intellectual standards on the right.

I don't know if you noticed, but of the countries in this world that are Arabic, most of them are horrible to women and gay people and run by religious theocracies like the one we're trying to fight off in America right now. People don't blindly hate Arabic people, they hate extreme Islam.

@cathyyoung63.bsky.social Do you have any insight on the "LiberalCurrents" startup? In spite of the name, it seems to be embracing some left-wing causes. I'm also surprised to see Adam Gurri as the editor, because I had him pegged as right-of-center. I don't want to be burned like "No Labels".

The Heritage Foundation, after its founding in 1973, quickly became “the most influential think tank in America,” Peter Wehner argues—and it’s “as good an institution as any in which to study the intellectual and moral decline of the American right.”

The conservative backlash against Nick Fuentes has yet to challenge the president who had him over for dinner.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

Trump doesn’t understand the Constitution, and we're all less safe for it.

It should be easy for educated, rational citizens to hold these two thoughts in mind: drug traffickers are the bad guys but due process of law protects us all.

Being against blowing up alleged drug traffickers at sea on the president's word does NOT make one a supporter of drug traffickers.

Exactly -- Majorie Taylor Greene did the right thing in breaking with Trump. She deserves to be praised for that. Someone else can worry about her soul.
Majorie Taylor Greene is not your friend. No politician is your friend. No permanent friends, just permanent interests.

You shouldn’t like her, or even celebrate her—you can cheer the action and not the person. We want to encourage more defections, not kid ourselves about who people are.
