Just a reminder to grad students out there that are beginning to fill out their committees, or faculty friends who know any students who may need an outside member!
Even though I'm teaching at a community college, I am interested in serving on graduate committees.

If you need (or know of a student who needs) an outside member, I've added a little blurb on my website outlining topics I'm interested in supervising.

Back during my archaeology days before I my Dark Turn™️ to sociocultural, I used to knap all the time. I still have my leather, antlers, stones, and a stash of cores somewhere around...

I even made an atlatl and spears to throw them with too.

This is probably the best point I made out of basalt.

Course name poll.

Which do you think will attract early career undergraduate students?

1. Life Beyond Earth: Astrobiology and the Philosophy of Outer Space

2. Cosmic Others: Philosophy of Astrobiology and Space Exploration

(Or feel free to tell me other ideas or combos)

For the love of God stop calling capitalism “Technofeudalism.” This is not a mutant regression off the track of benign capitalism’s progress to utopia. This is capitalism doing capitalism.

My goal in the next few years is to develop 2-4 new courses since my college only has intros to philosophy, ethics, & major religions.

Currently crafting syllabi for Philosophy of:
Mysticism & Magic
Astrobiology & Space Exploration
Time & Time Travel
Radical Political Thought

Not even in my most angst-filled, irreverent undergrad phase would I think it's appropriate to send an email to a professor who told me to read the syllabus for an answer to my question with an email that just says "?"

Some Gen-Z students have been so conditioned to entitlement.

Benzodiazepines are the only reason I'm probably still alive being forced to live in this regime, especially for the past 15 years or so.

I wish there was a way to escape this place that didn't create even more instability and anxiety.

This world that was created for us is beyond cruel.

Rewatching Station Eleven is sending me into existential crises 😭

I love this miniseries so much…

Our inaugural conference for SPINE was absolutely amazing yesterday. Incredible conversations, multimodal & politically disciplined proposals for moving forward in our current times, and many networking connections being made.

Those of us who lived through 2008 know the kind of suffering that is on the horizon—and this looks like it'll be even worse; not just quantitatively, but also due to the regime's planned incompetence that is purposefully ill prepared to keep capitalism and the state in tact.

In the online section of my introductory philosophy class of 26 students, all but one (1) student used AI on my Midterm.

We're toast.

Are there journals out there that publish article-length translations?

I've translated Bogdanov's “Between Man and Machine: About Taylor’s System" which I'd love to see in the English speaking world.

It speaks to a lot of what's going on technologically as well.

Dug a visual essay project out of mothballs to start working on again that's a very different kind of photography than I've done in the past.

I feel like I'm back working in archives!

I've been using the Hobonichi Techo as a diary since 2023 & I use the My 100 page to record my first-watch films & miniseries for the year.

I always fill it up before I get to December (e.g. watched my 100th yesterday) but I like being able physically flip through past watches.

The zeal in which most of the professors that I work with implicitly want to put themselves out of a job with AI is staggering and made my soul leave my body today in a committee meeting.
