Many men in their 40s and 50s feel it.

Our careers looks great on paper. Our income is fine. Yet, we have a nagging sense that we are drifting aimlessly rather than directing our lives toward something meaningful.

Stoicism offers a framework to fix this. 🧵

Can we PLEASE, stop using the word "Stoicism" incorrectly? It is a *moral philosophy* about building a *perfect moral character*... it's not whatever the shit Andrew Tate says it is. Stoicism is an alternative to toxic masculinity (or toxic femininity), not the fucking embodiment of it.
"Toxic masculinity does not mean that all masculinity is toxic. It refers to the expectation that men prioritize stoicism, violence, and other stereotypes of masculinity. These stereotypes are detrimental to men and women, as well as society as a whole." www.cbr.com/star-wars-to...

Star Wars' Anakin Skywalker falls to the Dark Side as a result of the toxic masculinity in which he is raised and trained.

The Left has lost its mind, and the Right has lost its heart.

The result is, respectively:

1. A party that denies practical realities and views pragmatism as a cancer.

2. A party that believes that all kindness is wokeness and infantilising weakness.

The future looks absolutely stygian.

I struggle (immensely) to respect, or even to be considerate of, emotional expressions which destabilise rational exploration of a topic, idea, or problem in need of solving.

That hearts and minds have to be won through emotional appeal, seems beyond my ability to understand or entertain.

Update?

I've been working on a lot of different things.

Stoicism, of course. As ever.

However, also: moving, dadding, RPA Engineering, and building four SaaS platforms:

supportmywork.app
podcastreviews.app
transcribemypodcast.app
cohortist.com

Much more to do.

I'll be back to social in 2026.

Been a while. I see about 96% of everyone still thinks Stoicism is about ice baths and swearing off masturbation, women, and porn. Maybe I’ll prolong this vacation until the new year.

Big problem with your categorisation, @waterstones.bsky.social — these are philosophy books.

For in Stoicism, there is no such thing as doing nothing. Everything must be considered that we become aware of, and thus an appropriate course of action then chosen. Not pulling the lever is as much a choice as pulling the lever, and each is the result of reason. Did we reason toward virtue or not?

Literally never happened. Goodness, the internet is something strange!
It’s always fun to ask stoics about this:

“Aurelius summoned Faustina and the gladiator in his room and asked them to have sex. While they were having sex, Aurelius’s soldiers executed the poor guy. Faustina had to bathe in the gladiator’s blood.”

I've been really quiet lately because I'm building something for online educators (something that I am, as an individual professional, and something that I'm passionate about).

It's shaping up really nicely.

When I'm ready to share it, and invite educators to it, I'll post the link.

Are we really, honestly, going to act like Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth have a Just definition in mind when they use the term "warrior ethos"?

We're not, right?

Well, I'm sure as schnitzel not.

This week's episode will be about the recent "rebranding" of the Department of Defence.

This is who it's for. I don't do #Stoicism for fuckwits, I do it for people who are interested in being Stoics and abandoning anything else that gets in the way... not for those looking to abandon Stoicism as soon as it conflicts with their self-indulgent ignorant bullshit.

What really gets me about reviews like this, is the idea that the individual has any authority over me. Look at how this is written. It’s not a complaint, it’s not feedback; it’s a directive, an order. Season 3 will see a lot of this, but that’s part of the plan. Be an honest Stoic or stop listening

Christian Stoicism doesn’t exist, in that the two systems are inherently incompatible.
Rejoice in your sorrows, and grateful to God for your misery, for the Kingdom of Heaven is neigh! Christian Stoicism.

I’m here to tell all Americans that summer in England is indistinguishable from summer in Florida. The humidity makes 30c feel like 100f. It is ungodly. And I lived in South Florida for 20 years.

I've been, VERY busy lately.

1. I'm developing a cloud based writing platform. A place to for #writers to write, and distribute from. Minimal, beautiful, intuitive.

2. I'm developing an #ADHD and #AUDHD -inspired sms-driven, voice forward reminder tool.

Ping me if you'd like access to betas.

It should be said that war, from the Stoic perspective, sometimes is the Just answer. We can read Leonidas Konstantakos on this: digitalcommons.fiu.edu/etd/4999/
