Remember when Amazon held a sale during Independent Bookstore Day in an effort to undercut indie bookstores?

We didn’t forget. Support local bookstores during Small Business Saturday and beyond.

So, happy 50th anniversary to Melody Maker’s review of Bohemian Rhapsody: “Queen, with a suitably baroque vocal orchestration, contrive to approximate the demented fury of the Balham Amateur Operatic Society performing The Pirates of Penzance”

seasonal reminder that if someone says they don't drink:
-it's none of your business why
-hosts should have several non-alcoholic beverage options
-the holidays can be a tough period for non-drinkers
-many jokes about not drinking are bad
-people are burned out and might just be tired

I cancelled my Disney+ sub when we were all cross with them for being crap, but considered rejoining to watch this. I didn’t realise the main episodes are *truncated* versions. So I’m going to watch the DVDs instead. Pretty stupid all round.

My dream is for all #Corrie scripts to be made digitally available so that this sort of breakthrough moment can be cross-referenced and researched

I read recently that Laurie Holloway's Blinddddd DDDDDate theme (you can sing 'Blind date, blind date' blind date' all the way through) is pretty much the Bewitched theme but backwards, and a penny has well and truly dropped there.

To pay millions in taxes, you must have been earning tens of millions. If, out of those tens of millions, you're unable to afford an extra £2,500 a year per £2m house you own, then you're an idiot. But you're not an idiot, are you? You're just a liar. Of course you can afford it. Shut up.

On budget day, think of George Ward Hunt, who delivered his only budget in 1868.

On arriving in the Commons he discovered that he'd left his speech behind, & had to run home to get it while MPs sat grumbling in the Chamber.

That is why chancellors show the red box to journalists before setting out

The Commons is an amazing place really. The Speaker can schoolmarmishly say 'as you know, we do not allow clapping in the chamber', but you ARE allowed to bray like a farm animal, wave paper around, and drown out the person at the microphone.
