Orient supporter, pub-goer, beer drinker, walker, naturalist, traveller, Londoner.
A day spent exploring in Freemantle and Perth, Western Australia. Lovely (although I was possibly exposed to too much sun).

Just another random weekend in Hastings.
17 pubs taking part in the annual Hastings Tap Takeover, thousands running in the Hastings Half Marathon and the annual Royal Albion Conkers Tournament.

Out with the old and in with the new. There's something different about London's Docklands Light Railway this morning.

I've had a very sporty long-weekend, attending cricket matches at Derby and Trent Bridge and football at Mansfield Town and Sherwood Colliery.
Three enjoyable games and one abject Leyton Orient defeat.

Funny little trains, stations with more syllables in their name than strictly necessary, hulking great locomotives. My holiday in Hungary is turning me into a train enthusiast.

I've been out exploring in the heat in north London today. A day (so far) featuring beautiful stations, heritage tube trains and local breweries.

I've been on lots of buses lately.
Buses are good (unless they are overcrowded No. 97s moving northwards up High Road, Leyton at less than walking pace; like the one I have just abandoned).

I don't know how I didn't know about this event until today, but the blank in my diary for this coming Saturday is now filled thank you.

Oh dear. Being retired is such a chore.

Contrasting sporting occasions for me in Manchester this week.
First the raw emotions of Wednesday night's fabulous Leyton Orient play-off win at Stockport County.
Then today a very sedate few hours watching day one of Lancashire v Derbyshire at Old Trafford.

I had a nice little wander around Whitechapel and Shadwell, in London today. Not many tourists walk these streets, which is a shame. It's a fascinating area and I always seem to find somewhere interesting that I have not been to before.

I spent a big chunk of today with friends tracing a 'Roman Road' through Essex. Temperatures suggested July or August, but with lush spring vegetation and masses of birdsong. A lovely, if slightly freaky, day.

A great day's cricket today, in glorious weather at the Oval in London.
Day 1 of Surrey v Hampshire, with Surrey making a slightly disappointing 253 all-out.
5,639 in attendance, which is pretty good for a work day in April.

Believe it or not, there was a time when local people around east London were a bit timid about admitting they were #lofc supporters.
It's lovely to see how that has changed in recent years.

Great today to see Clapton CFC Women reach their league's Cup Final with a well-deserved win at the Old Spotted Dog ground.
Clapton CFC 2 - 0 Soccer Elite Football Academy.
Enjoyed by a sizeable crowd of around 350.

Just another day in east London with beer, ducks, trains and mouldy street furniture.

A somewhat hazardous walk today around the Tilbury area of Essex, where dangers lurked around every corner.

A great excursion out of Seahouses on Farne's Lass for a circuit of the Farne Islands.
A bit of a swell on the sea. But good views of the Grey Seals and plenty of seabirds beginning to gather ahead of the breeding season, including the first Atlantic Puffins of the year.

The mountainous interior of Taiwan seems to have tremendous views around every corner. A hiking paradise.

Good morning from beautiful Taiwan.

To King's Cross today to see two exhibitions at the British Library. 'Medieval Women' and 'Silk Roads'.
Both fascinating, although the former a bit too crowded for comfort.
A really good bookshop here too (as you might expect really).

Today, mostly, I have been on the trail of Bertha (565 - 601-ish), one-time Queen of Kent.

If her statue in Canterbury is anything to go by, she might have been the original 'Big Bertha'.

A great visit today to the Shri Swaminarayan Mandir at Neasden, London.
No photos allowed inside unfortunately, but it really is the most peaceful and beautiful place. Plus they sell ace samosas.

As per tradition I present my end of year football attendance stats. I think my resolution for 2025 will be to keep the countries visited statistic in double figures.

Typical! You wait hours for an elephant and then two come around the corner together. #Jaipur
