This is the crescent moon from last night behind the California Tower in Balboa Park. Normally I plan these types of shots out in advance, but yesterday I was bored and began playing around in mooncalc. It looked like this alignment would work so I gave it go. Photo at about 9:12PM, single exposure.

This is the crescent moon setting behind the Ocean Beach Pier. The photo was taken about 50 minutes after sunset so there is still a bit of red glow on the horizon. The streaks are the stars moving due to earth's rotation in a long exposure. #sandiego #photography #oceanbeachpier #moon

San Diego is a lot more than beautiful beaches. Here is the sunset on the rolling hills by Julian from tuesday. This is about half way up the Volcan Mountain trail. It's fairly steep but not too hard a hike. I think the trees on the right are oak trees (can anyone confirm?) #photography #sandiego

Starburst -- I've been thinking about making this photo for a while now, but didn't manage to do so until last night. This is the view towards downtown from the Cabrillo Bridge in Balboa Park with a half moon in the sky (44%). It was around 7pm.

This photo is a bit different for me. I normally photograph in color, but occasionally I come across a scene that I think has to be in black & white. This is the White Lady cave in La Jolla, the eastern most of the seven caves along the coast by La Jolla Cove.

Here are two panoramas of the moon rising over the San Diego bay and skyline. The top is from Sunday night at about 7:20pm from Point Loma. The bottom one was from Saturday. The moon rose a little earlier in the evening and the photo was taken at 7pm from Harbor Island.

The almost full moon in Balboa Park tonight playing peek-a-boo with the clouds. #sandiego #moon #balboapark Single photo, 339mm, f/8, 3/5s, ISO 100.

The crescent moon last night setting behind the California tower in Balboa Park. The bright part on the bottom right is directly illuminated by the sun, the rest of the moon is in shadow but visible due to "earthshine" which is light reflected off the earth. #sandiego #photography #moon #balboapark

A few pictures of the night sky from the Mt Laguna area. Basically, drive east from #sandiego about an hour on I-8 and then take Sunrise highway. Any place along the road is a good place to stargaze (or hike in). These are from last month. #photography #milkyway #lagunamountains #astrophotography

This is tonight's moon rise from Cowles Mt. What an awesome explosion of pink and magenta tones, so glad to be done with June Gloom. I didn't have time to hike to the top, so this is half way up from the Barker way trailhead. This is looking to the south east over El Cajon. #sandiego #photography

Last night in Mt Laguna area (San Diego). I hiked out just before sunset and I saw a huge boulder in the meadow by the lake. I climbed up on top of it to get a better view. The top was cracked but I realized that they were running towards where the milky way core would rise.

This the fun zone at the San Diego fair. I actually don't like going on the rides but I do like photographing all the lights and how they streak across the night sky. This is shot handheld with some camera movement.

Normally I like to take wide landscape shots where I try to get everything in the frame. But more recently I've started to focus on small scenes like this photo where I just concentrate on a really small section of the landscape. This is from the coast on monday. #lajolla #seascapes #photography

Great horned owl and baby owlet. Taken yesterday. We stood around for about 5 hours and then there was 2 minutes of action (baby came out at 5:31:05 and went back inside at 5:33:32). Then it started raining on us. #owls

Today's the day before the equinox but the sun still pretty much lines up with all of the streets downtown at sunset in San Diego. Tomorrow will be the same, maybe even better. Here's the view from Golden Hill, never get tired of this. #sandiego #equinox #photography

The San Diego central library. I used to live right next door, it's great, even has a maker space with stuff like a 3d printer for the public to use. #sandiego #photography #cityscapes

Rather disappointed to see that Calibrate still needs rosetta to run its profiling software. It's been years since apple silicon was released @calibrite.bsky.social

These are the ornamental pear trees in Balboa Park. I think the white petals on the blooms are so beautiful and even rival the cherry blossoms. They started blooming about two weeks ago but I went back this weekend and they are going strong. #balboapark #sandiego #photography

How I love the rain. The Boulevard sign tonight from El Cajon Boulevard. #sandiego #photography #rain

The ornamental pear trees in Balboa Park. We had a pair of these in front of our house when we lived in San Jose. The blossoms are beautiful, like snow almost. This is from a few days ago. #sandiego #balboapark

I like shooting the moon over different landmarks in the city. This is the crescent moon last night at around 9:00pm from between the buildings on B Street. I shot the same spot about 7 years ago except it was the full moon setting just before dawn. #sandiego #moon #photography #cityscapes

Scripps Pier from Tuesday. Some nice clouds rolled in right at sunset. Saw another fellow shooting with a fuji 6x17, which was my dream camera many years ago before digital was a thing. Never ended up buying one due to cost but I wish I had splurged back then. #lajolla #photography #sandiego

Another one from Windansea Beach. This is during the king tides when we get the highest tide levels of the year (breaks 7'). A winter storm had just past through leaving the rainbow #sandiego #lajolla

Two things I love in photography are panos and the rush of water at the ocean. This is tonight's sunset at Windansea #sandiego #photography
