Thinking about one of my favorite old NASA Institute for Advanced Concepts studies: "Exploration of Jovian Atmosphere Using Nuclear Ramjet Flyer". A tiny little descendant of Project Pluto, it'd use a direct-cycle fission ramjet to fly a drone roughly the size of a Weddell seal all over Jupiter.

Explanations for superpowers are always bullshit but I personally am a fan of “smart atoms” from Invincible as a justification for Viltrumites’ powers. Essentially femtotech that has a preferred velocity in relation to other atoms and as determined by the user.

To us, beauty in other humans tends to be wildly variable. Some people are gorgeous, while others not so much.
But this doesn’t hold for other species. To us, species tend to appear aesthetically homogeneous. What I wonder is would human beauty be as variable to aliens as it is to us?

I hope at one point we start seeing automaton ships in low orbit and automatons gain the ability to direct their fire at us. It feels wrong for our ships to be almost entirely uncontested, and they don’t have any kind of similar capability that we do.

The thing about (speculative) solutions to oral hygiene involving microbots or synthetic microbes is that you better be okay with a much greater number of people having them than those who explicitly signed up to get them since they would be transmissible though saliva exchange.

Big fan of Omega from Starsector in particular. Its ships and weaponry are so unlike anything else seen in the sector, and imply there is so much about its universe that humanity doesn’t know or understand.

One way I think we should try demoing this capability is getting yeast to produce Mycoplasma bacteria, since they’re very simple bacteria and we have a decent amount of experience engineering yeast.
I often think about whether or not it’s possible to go from one organism to another entirely disparate organism if I allow for arbitrary inputs for the starting cells. For example, is there a set of inputs I can place on a human stem cell that will eventually get me a Paramecia?
