Mini thread on the ET decision in Peggie

Top line: It says exactly what we have been saying for months. The decision of the Supreme Court was not to turn the Equality Act 2010 into a nationwide bathroom ban - regardless of how anti-trans organisations have sought to misrepresent the law.

All of this is fascism. And not early stage either. This is the embedding of the Right Wing Daily Mail press consensus as the absolutely unshakable common sense of the UK state. Made possible because the "left wing" party has abdicated any kind of moral position on it.
this is really grim

you fight transmisogyny by *fighting transmisogyny*, not by playing games with cis people’s colouring-book comprehension of sex and gender
Had fun muting and blocking a bunch of people who’s only response to the transmisogynistic WI is “trans men should join up en masse, that’ll show them”

No it won’t, you clown. You put your body on the line, stop offering up mine for a humiliation ritual that will do nothing for trans women

As I posted earlier, this campaign is similar to panic about "boys in girls' sports" and, as commenters pointed out, "welfare queens"—and refugees! And DEI! Conservatives try to use outlier scenarios to stoke resentment and suspicion about any system that extends benefits to marginalized people.
One of the biggest impacts I’ve seen from the unproven idea that people are wrongfully using disability accommodations is that people stop trusting people with disabilities and in fact further restrict, remove, and demonize accommodations for people with disabilities in general

It feels worth mentioning that Graham Linehan’s harassment literally continued in the courtroom, as he repeatedly misgendered Sophia, and referred to her as “Tarquin”, a fictional deadname he made up for her as part of his harassment campaign. The judge was complicit in this harassment happening.
I wonder if I spent all day, every day, for years, calling Graham Linehan - or the judge - a nonce and then, when I saw him in the street screamed it in his face and smashed his phone, would a judge find I had done no harassing?

And that's not even factoring in the age of his victim

Kathleen Stock has written an article against "abortion permissiveness". She claims abortion requires "justification" saying the state should limit "unacceptable decision-making" by women about their own bodies.

This is who anti-trans activists proclaim as the feminist thought leaders of our time.

Could there be anything to learn here for the Labour party? No, surely not, they're doing fine, nothing to see here. Their continued descent into fascism and electoral suicide will surely pay off any day now.
The Danish party that inspired Labour’s hardline immigration policy is on course to lose Copenhagen for the first time in more than a hundred years.

Among the reasons cited: fatigue and frustration with its hardline immigration policy.

the entirety of the british press talked themselves into believing this woman is trans based almost entirely on JK Rowling's judgement of the athlete's appearance.
Nothing illustrates the arseholery of the IOC and the British Press more than the use of the image of a not-Trans woman to illustrate a story about trans women being banned (because there are no current trans women competing at this level)

Just as the union was about to get recognised, Rockstar fired almost every employee involved in it without explanation. I'm sure we have a phrase for this kind of behaviour. And this wasn't in the US, land of poor employment rights, this was the UK.

To paraphrase a German saying: if 9 good people and one transphobe sit down at a table, and no one says anything to challenge them, there are 10 transphobes at that table.

Except he wasn't just hosting a dinner party, he was in charge and actively responsible for the hate speech on his watch.
Tim Davie, according to sources actually in the meetings, is not pro trans. He isn't anti trans, no. But he doesnt understand or want to advance trans issues in any meaningful way & the rise of transphobia in the BBC can be attributed more to a lack of action rather than any direct decision making.

“What do you mean, the proposed rules would create a third sex, something we explicitly agreed not to do under human rights laws? What do you mean, implementing these rules would cost businesses huge amounts of money and open them up to legal action? Shit. Uh... Lengthy impact assessment, anyone?”
Here's the question.

The EHRC has briefed that the draft statutory guidance is basically the same as the Interim Guidance. So why, if the draft statutory guidance gets the law right, did the EHRC choose to take down the Interim Guidance in the face of our Judicial Review?
