TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".
Bronze plaque saying "A Letter to the Future. Ok is the first Icelandic glacier to lose its status as a glacier. In the next 200 years all our glaciers are expected to follow the same path. Comic from my weekly series, Chamomile. Detailed Description Follows: Chamomile is walking down the street with a worried expression, holding the injured puppy to her shoulder and the other one on the lead behind her. She stops as the puppy on the lead stops to sniff the base of a street light. She tugs on the lead and cheerfully says "C'mon then!" She continues walking, same as before. The puppy on the lead again stops to sniff a street sign base. She has a strained expression as she says "C'mooooon, we can't stop to sniff everything on this walk! We gotta get your sibling to the vet, they might be hurt!" The puppy being held suddenly starts wiggling and flailing around and Chamomile says "Oh no, are you okay? What's up? What do you want?" A moment later, the second puppy is also on the ground with the first, sniffing the street sign base. Chamomile stands nearby with a defeated look. End of comic.
