I find conferences can be really good for this, but not sitting in sessions on my own area of expertise: it has to be something outside of it, so I often find myself picking a really odd selection of sessions to go to.

I get my best research ideas doing very ordinary things at home; I find that tidying up works best, but I never know when I'll surprise myself. NOT when I'm sitting before the computer, that's for sure.

Mine typically come to me while driving to campus and trying out wordings of explanations for lecture. That's when I discover a different way of thinking about basic topics.

As a researcher, one of the greatest feelings is when a good idea pops up into your head. It can happen in an instant ("Aha!" moment) and at the most random of times.

Is this your experience too, and when do you get your best research ideas?

Using difference-in-differences analysis, we found a universal 15% increase in SNAP benefits was linked to a 20% reduction in the odds of child food insufficiency.

Hispanic American households experienced a 39% reduction, and large households showed a 33% reduction in child food insufficiency.
