Spotted a question elsewhere (posed by one taking umbrage at the positive reaction to new Tomb Raider trailers); "Do characters HAVE to be sexy?"
If targeting a specific market, it helps, but generally, no.
They DO have to be visually interesting. Bland designs are forgotten.
