Something I've noticed lately is how, in the shadow of America's increasing loud anti-trans rhetoric, every time there's a "here's what it means to be Canadian and fight back in the face of These Hard Times" there are also no trans people involved. Like our elbows don't go up the same way.

fellow authors, it’s our duty to financially ruin the AI industry
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

"Clearly, this government is capable of speaking about spending decisions that don’t align with its priorities. So why is it clamming up in the face of big business behaving badly in the United States?"

“This wishy-washy stance when it comes to jaw-dropping cruelty tied to the U.S. is yet another stroke in an increasingly clear portrait: one of PM Mark Carney with his elbows firmly planted to his sides when it comes to big business.”

In real life, it is seniors who rent in crisis. Fastest growing group of homeless residents, almost no returns on savings due to low interest rates leading to collapse, almost no rental housing built in decades, rising rents at historic levels eating up fixed incomes, & stagnant disability supports

any creative that talks to generative ai for ideas instead of to the shadows that haunt them or to the small animal bones under their bed isnt worthy of being read by human eyes.
Your results may vary, but in my opinion, none of these uses are acceptable.

I am so tired of academia's entrenched "just get a job somewhere else" mentality. Like, "I'm sure there's something a few states/countries over."

What other workers do we ever say that to?

No. The tools of resistance are to fight for what we have here.

Also to make an em dash all you have to do is put two dashes in a row in Word, and the program makes it for you. Wordpress too.

Anything an LLM is doing is stolen from actual writers and I'll be damned if I'll let a plagiarism machine dictate how I use language, grammar or punctuation.
Stop spreading this garbage about em dashes in ACTUAL EDITED PROSE OH MY GOD.

Plenty of actual human beings know how to type em dashes! We’re called “writers” and “editors” — maybe you’ve heard of us?

Let's be clear: three of the four books flagged by the Alberta government today as containing "inappropriate content" feature queer and trans people.

This is moral panic.

This is the same blueprint of book bans in the US.

And this is happening in Canada.

if you use AI secretly in your writing, which a lot of people seem to be doing? why are you a writer? The only two pleasures in writing are writing and having written, neither of which you will have done, so what pleasure will you have? The pleasure of being self-published and read by no one?
