Three killed in Dnipro as Russia launches massive overnight drone and missile attacks across Ukraine
The death toll from a Russian strike on Dnipro in the early hours of Saturday, November 8, has risen to three, city mayor Borys Filatov said. Another person is being searched for. “Until the rescue operation is completed, unfortunately, the number of victims will grow,” he wrote on Telegram . Earlier, the head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration (OVA), Vladyslav Haivanenko, said the number of injured had increased to 12, with seven in hospital. Russian forces overnight launched a combined attack using drones and missiles against targets across several Ukrainian regions. The Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Poltava, Sumy, Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions, as well as Kyiv, were hit, the State Emergency Service of Ukraine (SES) said. In Dnipro, a drone struck a nine-story residential building, damaging apartments from the 4th to the 6th floors and sparking a fire. Two children were among the injured. Kyiv and Kremenchuk in Poltava region also came under attack. In the capital, private homes and cars were damaged, the SES reported. There were no immediate reports of casualties, but at least four people were injured by falling drone debris in Kyiv region. In Kremenchuk, Mayor Vitalii Maletskyi said the strike knocked out power across the entire city. Emergency power cuts were also imposed in the Kremenchuk community of Poltava region, said the head of the military administration, Volodymyr Kogut. The outages disrupted water supply and, in part, heating. Ukrainian media also reported a lack of electricity, water and heat in Horishni Plavni, a city near Kremenchuk. Rail infrastructure in Poltava region was damaged, delaying several trains connecting Kharkiv with western Ukraine and Kyiv. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), the overnight barrage included 45 missiles, among them 32 ballistic, and 458 drones of various types. The main axes of attack were the Kyiv, Poltava and Dnipropetrovsk regions. Ukrainian forces reported 26 missile impacts and 52 drone strikes. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the targets included residential buildings, energy facilities and infrastructure. “The issue is the resources for killing, the money — sanctions are needed to deprive Russia of the ability to continue the war it started and is dragging out. We value all the steps our partners have already taken, but the Russian strikes show that the pressure must be stronger,” Zelensky wrote on Telegram.
