I play #RPGs and #wargames. I paint #minis and make terrain. I love #sci-fi, #fantasy and #mysteries. All of my interests give me joy, none of them will pay the rent and I am fine with that. Rotterdam, NL

Really enjoying @timmaughan.bsky.social’s Infinite Detail. It reads as if Islands in the Net crashed into The Long Tomorrow, but with its own colour and sound. 2020s cyberpunk done right.
If you get the chance, Albert Moreto Font is sharing some of the process photos from his Golden Demon Slayer Sword win and it is pretty amazing.

This is sometimes read as "look 'AI' isn't working". But the opposite is true.

_This_ is what "AI" is _for_. Push down labor power, push down wages, make employment more insecure.

Pottery Throwdown is the best competition show. Because even though there's just 1 winner, everyone is so awesome they aren't losers
If you need comfort viewing/a break from everything, will note Great Canadian Baking Show free on Roku & Great Pottery Throw Down on HBOMax (2 seasons there, the rest are... shall we say, findable elsewhere). Spoke my truth on greatness of the GPTD a while back www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/20...

A lot of people warned for years that the combination of inaccuracy and state oppression made biometric scanning and facial recognition incredibly dangerous. I pitched sooooo many stories about this and was often told “but there are no victims yet.”

so many companies say they are replacing people - laying them off - with automated systems, AI. but there has been no real auditing or regulatory approach to vetting such claims. i am deeply skeptical. think a lotta the cuts are just due to failures to sell or cut costs & prior over hiring.

1. hire them back at a lower rate
2. as freelancers
3. with no benefits
4. Profit!

AI might create autonomous, sentient, superintelligent beings (slaves) that will bring abundance OR reduce FTE headcount. Either way...

"An NBC News review of over 30 data center proposals across 14 states found that in a majority of cases, local officials signed NDAs and worked with what appeared to be shell companies that can conceal visibility into the project developers."
How Big Tech uses NDAs to hide AI data center details from Americans
Big Tech companies use secrecy agreements with local governments to keep communities from knowing who is building in their backyards.

The minis for the ALIEN RPG adventure 'Rapture Protocol' come with a booklet that adapts the rules as a skirmish miniatures game. The minis can be used beyond the adventure but you can use your own minis, too.

It's an ongoing project so updates and maps are on Free League's website. Awesome idea.

Reminder on this! Grab one of our beautiful (subjective) Deep One Heralds from Forge of Ice (go here if you're in the US!) and compete for an original concept art sketch by legendary mini artist John Dennett plus some Fenris prizes I haven't sent to Andy yet. Rules in Andy's OG thread below!

Deep One Herald.

Ok so this is a special one. For November we’ve partnered with @fenrisgames.com for a single mini competition.

Your mission this month is to paint this, the Deep One Herald. It’s an awesome mini with loads of potential for shenanigans.

One of the reasons I love retro-SF futures is because they speak to this increasing trend of turning shit off and disconnecting devices. When AWS goes down and bricks your bed, fridge, and thermostat, the appeal of analog is keenly felt.
