It's a collaborative effort between researchers from University of Warsaw, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and ETH Zürich.
The project is funded by @ncn.gov.pl, @snsf.ch, and Research Foundation Flanders through the OPUS LAP/Weave programme.
🌐 Kamila Lewandowska of the Science Studies Laboratory is part of the international team behind the project “Practice-based research: investigating research practices, outputs and impacts in Belgium-Flanders, Poland, and Switzerland”.
❓ How can practice-based research drive societal change?
We’re excited to share a new blog post by the Cultural Studies of Science and Technology Group, exploring how transdisciplinary, practice-rooted approaches are shaping research across diverse contexts.
We're proud to share that Ewa Zegler-Poleska presented her research at #ISSI2025 in Yerevan! Ewa is a member of our Lab at @euroreg-uw.bsky.social, University of Warsaw.
It's rewarding to see our team members participating in global academic networks and representing the Lab at international events.
First day back at work from an inspiring week at the International Society for Scientometrics and Informetrics (ISSI) 2025 Conference in Yerevan!
📸 Apollo 17’s lunar rover, co-designed by Polish engineer Mieczysław Bekker, the namesake of the program. Bekker helped create the rovers for Apollo 15–17.
💡A key insight: the value of qualitative methods in capturing impacts that bibliometric indicators alone may overlook, making a compelling case for adopting mixed-method approaches in evaluating grant schemes.
The study finds mobility programs do more than generate publications and grants: they also promote skill development and the exchange of good practices.
New article in PLOS ONE: Dr. Adam Ploszaj (@euroreg-uw.bsky.social) analyzes the impact of international academic mobility, using NAWA Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange Bekker Programme as a case study.

The RESSH Conference was organised by #ENRESSH and hosted by the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies.
👏 Many thanks to the organizers for an inspiring event focused on building more responsible, inclusive, and meaningful research evaluation systems.

Kamila Lewandowska spoke in two sessions:
• With Michael Ochsner (on behalf of all coauthors) she presented work on evaluating applied & practice-based research in social work & health sciences.
• In another, she discussed impact case studies from Poland (with Z. Smolarska & Alfredo Yergos-Yergos).
We're a bit late, but excited to share highlights from our participation in Research Evaluation in the Social Sciences and Humanities Conference 2025 in Helsinki!
Kamila Lewandowska, Zofia Smolarska & Ewa Zegler-Poleska from Science Studies Lab presented on research-practice links and preprints. 👇🧵
📈 How aligned are business & academia in innovation?
A new study by K. Szczygielski, J. Lewkowicz & A. Ploszaj proposes a patent-based thematic coherence index for national innovation systems.
More coherence = more innovation output per R&D input!

✈️ Do direct flights boost scientific collaboration?
A new study by Adam Ploszaj published in “Scientometrics” shows long-haul connections increase co-authored papers, even across great distances.

Recently, Ewa @zeglerpoleska.bsky.social discussed the study’s findings on the “Kampus Nauka” program on Radio Kampus (University of Warsaw). The podcast, available in Polish, can be listened to on various platforms – find the links in the next post! Check it out for more details on the study! 👇
❓ But how much do we really trust science and scientists? An international research team from the Trust in Scientists and Science-related Populism (TISP) project, including Adam Płoszaj and Ewa Zegler-Poleska of our Lab and EUROREG @euroreg-uw.bsky.social, explored this question.
🇵🇱 Today is Polish Science Day, a celebration of the achievements of Polish scientists and their contributions to global knowledge. We mark this day on the anniversary of Nicolaus Copernicus’ birth.
