Tonight we celebrated all the faculty promotions across UNT. Thank you to everyone, especially my husband, for making my promotion and tenure possible!

Yesterday I attended a full-day #WLIC2025 pre-conference on expanding access to digital literacy. Speakers from diverse locations provided intellectual content while our hosts at the Eurasian National University Library generously offered food and music. It was a satisfying and memorable day!

Arrived early to #WLIC2025 for pre-conferences. At half-day session on AI & Bibliographic Control, heard about AI-enhanced projects in medicine, agriculture, & cultural artifacts, a new IFLA publication good for thinking about AI in libraries & an effort to overcome language barriers in scholarship.

Last month’s #nsnconference2025 was a valuable reminder of the rich depth and wide application of storytelling in healthcare, business, & more. I am excited to continue developing our UNT Info Science storytelling courses into essential resources for information professionals!

First day of #nsnconference2025 was awesome! Opening night showcase of regional storytellers was delightful. But look at today’s schedule! Activities run from 7am to 11pm, like a fan convention. So much energy here. My elder mentors are putting me to shame, as I’m getting sleepy already!

Two days and four states later, my lovely companions and I are almost to the National Storytelling Conference at Kennesaw State University. So excited to attend for the first time! #nsnconference2025

I'm officially announcing that I achieved tenure & promotion this spring. Took me 2 months to say it publicly because I'm still mentally processing making it to this milestone. I genuinely express my gratitude to each of you who has been a part of my life in some way. Thank you!

#alaac2025 was restorative. Felt fortunate to have time with colleagues, friends, & mentors, talking about libraries & the research that can support their valuable services to communities. Also poignant to be in Philadelphia, the birthplace of American democracy.

Just landed in Philadelphia for #ALAAC25. I’m most looking forward to seeing you, library friends. Let’s talk! After the last 6 months, we need the camaraderie!!

Like many of my colleagues, I have received a notice of termination of my IMLS grant. I decided to write back and ask for a more detailed explanation of the decision, which I think each grantee deserves.

In my work as a librarian & a researcher, I have seen the ways a library can connect & strengthen a community, especially in rural areas. This shouldn’t be a political issue. IMLS is a tiny amount of the federal budget yet it makes such a difference for so many Americans. Please consider action.

Excited for the webinar tomorrow about recent Library Trends issue. It contains our article about the IMLS-funded project, Raise Up Radio, titled "Concentric Learning Communities: Educating Rural Library Staff in Principles of Collaborative Family Learning." ischool.illinois.edu/news-events/...

No trip to a new city is complete without a trip to an independent bookstore for comics and children’s books from local creators. Shelf Life Books is full of unique content all beautifully laid out. Plus kind and helpful #booksellers to boot! #shopsmall #shoplocal

I spent my first evening in Calgary at the new central library and on my last evening at Calgary, I visited the original central library. A beautifully restored and welcoming space! #publiclibraries

I must explore the nearest public library when I enter a new city. And the @calgarylibrary is incredible. The coolest part? Despite having a technology outage (no internet), the building was full of people. It is so clearly a community treasure for all ages. #publiclibrariesrock

Just arrived in Calgary for #ASIST24! I think my hotel room view is adorably Canadian. Like they are saying, “We’re sorry you have to look at the roof of another building. So we’re gonna put down rocks in a pretty pattern to make it better.” Feels friendly already!

It’s valuable for professors to volunteer in areas related to their research. I love to go to fandom events where creative people share their knowledge with a community. I’ve been wanting to volunteer for the AnimeFest since we moved to Texas. I finally made it!

On my last full day in Ireland, I visited the local public library. The staff was kind enough to show me around their sensory room for children. It’s always so great to talk with library staff and learn about their work with their community! #publiclibraries

#graphmed2024 was truly full of draíocht! The magic of community, of care, of connection, & of creativity. I’m so grateful I could be here to participate. I have come away full to the brim of new knowledge & inspiration. Many thanks to the amazing team who made it all happen!

Time for conference 4 of 4! Attended a great pre-conference yesterday & today I share the results of our public library health literacy research pilot. Then I’ll spend the next couple days learning from all the amazing people who continue to innovate in this area. #graphmed2024

Another conference break means more library visits! Checked out 2 Leeds Library branches, one humble & one grand but both full of wonderful resources for the community! #publiclibraries

I had a chance to check out a great independent comic shop in Leeds, Yorkshire. I love the way they display everything, especially books by local artists. And I love that their staff is friendly & helpful. 2 thumbs up & 5 stars! #comicslibrarian

Conference 3 of 4 was a great opportunity to interact with practitioners & academics. It was inspiring to learn about the UK library landscape at #cilipconf24 & hear how they address challenges we share. Can’t wait to share these insights with my LIS students!

Between conferences, I traveled to Bristol & had the privilege of touring the Bristol Public Library Central Building to learn about their work with the community. Thank you to the lovely staff for hosting me! #librarieschangelives

Conference 2 of 4 is something I’ve wanted to attend for years! The Society for the History of Authorship, Reading & Publishing has so many intersections with info science & perspectives on learning. So happy to be here at University of Reading!

Today was my public library & bookshop visit day! Nørrebro Bibliotek & BIBLIOTEKET Rentemestervej are both amazing examples of remaking buildings into community hubs with the library at the center. I also visited Arnold Busck Købmagergade, Børnenes Boghandel, & Faraos Cigarer.

Researching the Reading Experience in the Digital Age was a transformative conference! My first time in a setting where scholars research the same phenomena from diverse disciplines and methods. An important and valuable experience that sets the stage for my future.

It’s starting! So excited to be a part of this intimate conference on such important topics. Learning with scholars from around the world. Exploring the biggest issues and changes in reading culture. #readingcommunity

Day 1 of #isls2024 & my mind is already reeling. I'm hearing people talk about "data science" learning studies which sounds a lot like the "information" behavior studies that I hear at ASIST or ALISE conferences. My worlds are colliding! #learningsciences #informationscience
